VOL VIII No. 45.
CARD FRDM JUDGE PARK
For the purpose of dispatching the
business of the court, as we have re
turned to normal conditions after the
great war, I desire Ao make the fol
lowing announcement on the conven
ing of this court, to wit:
1. Courts will be held at the ap
pointed times unless providentially
hindered from doing so. Adjourned
courts are not generally satisfactory.
2 The court desires for all grand
and traverse jurors, Who are drawn,
to serve, unless it is absolutely neces
sary to excuse them. All men owe
their„ country certain public duties
and one of them is to serve on juries,
when summoned to do so.
3 All traverse jurors, attorneys,
parties and witnesses to be present in
court during its sessions, unless ex
cused by the court. When a wit
ness is subpoenaed, he is required to
attend court until the case is finally
tried.
4 Rule 21 requires parties to an
nounce in five minutes or move to
continue, after a case is sounded, or
the petition or answer will be dis
missed. Attorneys and parties are
hereby placed on notice that this rule
will be enforced, unless there is good
reason to the contrary.
5 Demurrers to petitions and ans
wers must be brought to the atten
tion of the court previous to jury
hours, if counsel desires to argue the
same.
6 Counsel must confer with cli
ents and witnesses previous to the
call of the ease for trial.
7 The Sheriff, or his deputy,
must remain in court to see that or
der is maintained and to attend to
such other duties as may be required.
8 The Sheriff will summon only
a sufficient number of bailiffs, neces
sary for the business of the court.
He -will designate two of said bai
liffs as riding officers. Proper dili
gence requires the parties in civil
and criminal cases pending in court
to have their witnesses subpoenaed

witness knows about the ease on trial,

be repeated, and witnesses must be
treated with proper courtesy as pro
vided by Section 5870 of the Civil
Code.
11 Attorneys and parties will be
given ample time to fully and fairly
try each cause pending in court, and
after a case is tried, it will be the
general rule of the court to allow the
judgments and verdicts to stand, un
less there has been a miscarriage of
justice
12 All other ru’es of court will be
strictly and impartially enforced,
whenever necessary to preserve order
and dispatch business.
The court desires to say in conclus
ion that “a word to the wise is suffi
cient," and I will take pleasure in do
ing all in my power for the accom
modation of the jurors, attorneys,
parties, and witnesses, provided it
will not interfere with the business of
the court, end I respectfully ask
your cordial cooperation in order that
we may dispose of cases as expedi
tiously as possible and thereby save
expense to the tax payers of the coun
ty. Courts are intended to adjust
the business that parties are unable
to settle among themselves and to
punish the violators of the criminal
laws.

POTATO HOUSES
Until recently there was no effort
on the part of the farmers of North
west Georgia to save sweet potatoes
in storage houses built on the plan
that is being recommended by the
State College of Agriculture.
In fact only one house had been
built on this plan and put into opera
tion. It was built two years ago by
Mr Martin Amorous, at Marietta.
The first year he lost only 2 per
cent of his potatoes, and he discover
ed the cause of tiiat excessive loss, as
called it, and made a slight change
in the construction ot the house, and
eliminated the cause of this loss. Last
year he put his potatoes into the
house and followed instructions care
fully. He lost only one fourth of
one per cent of his potatoes and sold
his surplus, the ones he did not need,
for home use, to Atlanta grocerymen
at $2.75 per bushel.
