METHODIST MEETING
The series of revival services at
the church here which was intended
to continue throughout the week, end

church in Macon demanded the pres

The splendid sermons he preached
drew large congregations to each of
the services and the ready response

RECKLESSNESS ANH CMME '
A'^er all wars follows a period of ■
crime and disorder. It has often ।
been said wisely that the peoriod of
reconstruction is worse than war.
Neyer before have we seen so much
restlessness and crime. The restless
ness will succumb order, anxiety will
surrender to patience, but crime must
be punished and prohibited by law.
Not so long ago you read of crime
in some other state than yours. Later
it was in some other county than
yours but nearer home. After a
while it began to creep into your
county but perhaps did not get into
your district. Now since the war it
seems to be in every district.
Within ninety days in one district
two negroes have been killed, and
another case of assault with intent to
murder- these crimes by negroes.
All this has happened besides the
numerous petty crimes that are going
on, and other worse crimes that will
come to bght, perhaps. All of this
in our county.
No longer does it seem safe to leave
your home. Som times one is not
safe > here Recem v a man was sit
ting on hi back veranda enjoying
the cool breeze of the early night,
> knowing that no man had a just
cause or any cause to have a griev
ance toward him. Before he knew

weapon that shot, a ball, fired and,
had he r.ot been sitting behind a
small post that turned the course of
the bullet, he would no doubt have
been killed. Ilas the time come
when a man is not. safe in his own
home?
T here is a remedy for all this. For
eyefy evil there is a remedy. The
purpose of the Grand jury is to in
vestigate crime and from the evidence
produced to get a bid or a no bill.
If every man who knows of a crime
in his community would report the
matter to the grand jury with a list
of witnesses who know about the af
fair, and they generally can be found,
all the guilty parties could not be
convicted, but in less than three
terms of court you would live in a
more law abiding community.
If there ever was a time for every
honest, fearless man, who is afraid of
no one but. bis Creator to do his part
iu enforcing the law to put down
crime in this county it is now. After
court it may be too late. It is a
shame the way things are now. It is
up to the people of each community
to see that everything iu their sec
tion is “turned up’'. If eacli section
of the county will do that we can put
a stop to lawlessness iu this county.
By keeping up that system we can
keep it stopped.

Help Car Shortage
Walker D. Hines, Director Gener
eral of Railroads, authorizes the fol
lowing statement:
“During the war, no one was more
patriotically helpful than the Ameri
ca i si ipper.
The Railroad Administration had
excellent oj portunity to observe this
attitude during the war and has ap
preciated heartily the subsequent con
tinned cooperation of the great ma
jority of the shippers.
“An unusually heavy grain and
coal movement, deferred repair and
the construction of public highways
in all sections of the country and the
concentrated requirements of sudden
ly reviving business, combined with
the usuq! transportation requirements,
at thjs ‘w of the year, threatens a
serious lick of transportation facilities
unless all parties interested cooperate
in securing the greatest possible util
ity from the existing limited trans
portation facilities."
