DR. W. H. PARKER DIES
AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
Dr. William H. Parser, of Irwinton,
one of the most prominent men of Wil
kinson county, died at a sanitarium
in Sandersville Tuesday night about
11 o’clock after a short illness.
The deceased was not only one of
the leadins; physicians of this section,
serving as county physician, but
owned large interests in perhaps the
biggest body of bauxite lands in the
state, besides valuable kaolin deoosits,
operated a number of farms and was
one of the .leading timber and sawmill
men of the county.
The funeral services were conduct
ed at the Union church, Irwinton,
Thursday afternoon by Dr. Harriso^
talks also being made bv several
friends; interment was in the Mason
ic cemetery.
Dr. Parker had an unusually large
number of dose friends and any men
tion of his name was generally fol
lowed by some kindly remark about
his admirable qualities. These rela
tive and friends were gathered by
hundreds at the funeral and brought
many lovely floral offerings.
He leaves a widow, who was for
merly Miss Marv Lee Yawn; one son,
DuPree Parker, of Emory university;
one brother, H. C, Parker, of
Mclntyre; sisters, Mrs M. M, Blood
worth, Mrs. J. L. Smith, both of
Mclntyre, and- Mrs. N, B Price, of
Atlanta.

Commerce Meeting
The Gordon Chamber of Commerce
held its regular monthly Meeting at
the Gordon School Aud'torium Tues
day evening, Jan. 6th.
The mattei of getting a road survey
from Irwinton to Macon was taken
up. < • •
The hairman appointed a com
mittee composed of Dr. R E. Evans,
M- T. Nicbok J. J. Rvle, Johj W.
Hooks, S. W. Lee and Geo H.
Carswell to get in touch with the
proper authority s to get a survey
made as soon as possible.
The possibility of Gordon having
water works was brought up. v ir.
Sol Isenberg, Vice President, of the
Gordon Chamber of Commerce, spoke
on the good that the city of yordon
would derive from having water works
Mr. John W. Hooks was next
speaker and he named over a number
of towns in Georgia with a population
even smaller than Gordon that had the
very best of water works, and he
would investigate and find out just
what method they went about getting
their waterworks.
Mr. Dowdie, of Roberts & Company
Atlanta. Ga , offered his assistance in
getting figures on tne cost of construc
ing water works, and also gave a very
interesting talk regarding the benefits
that would be derived from installing
such equipment.

Commissioners Meet
The County Commissioners met
Tuesday and Dr R E Evans was
elected chairman of the board He is
peculiarly fitted for this place. Dr.
Evan-, will make minv trips to
Atlanta for the. County in getting
convicts and working with the High
way Department. By the chairman
