I had Tuesday of this week.
You know, Jan, my thoughts
always turn “Homeward” three
times a day. And Tuesday when
[ started out to “Shady Rest,’
for lunch, “making all I could

I didn’t get in on all of it, but
from what I did get it seems
that someone suggested the idea
of forming an Anti Xmas Gift
Club, several weeks ago, and
have signed a pledge not to give
presents this year, only to the
home folks. Each member pays
the small amount of fifty cents,
and that is to furnisn refresh
ments, etc. for a Real Big Xmas
Party.
Really, Jan, it will be ‘Briliant
if they do all the things they
said. In fact I think it will be

me at the door and very graci
ously explained that she was en
tertaining several of her friends
with a Bird Dinner. And since
I had been fortunate enough to
have tire trouble right at her
front door, she very graciously
asked me to go in and join the
party. Jan. you know what, a
weakness I have always had for
BIRDS, so I accepted her kind
invitation almost as graciously
as she had extended it.
She ushered us into the living
room, and who should I see but
Mrs Ralph Culpepper, Mrs Rosa
Lindsey, Mrs Roy Cannon, Mrs
Irwin Everett, Miss Mary Tigner
Faye Culpepper and Miss Mary
Player.
After all of us got over the
shock of ME getting there, ‘just
at the right time’, dinner was
announced served. And, Jan,
you’ve never seen such a feast
in all your life. She kept serv
ing and serving courses, until at
the end of the FIFTH we begged
her to let up on us. You see,
; dear, she didn’t have just birds,
she had everything she could
1 possibly think of, ‘one of these
। full fledged Xmas dinners!’
i Well, after dinner we all went
back to the living room to enjoy
I the noon program over the radio,
and I think the radio must have
' been in full sympathy with us,
■ and didn’t fee-l like working, so
; all it gave us was static.
■ I was in the depth ot telling
’ Faye Culpepper a Christmas
■ story, and just as I got to the

see me, then, for you see as soon
as I learned all I could get them
to tell me, I hurried up town and
signed this pledge, and if Ido

Irwinton Highschool News
The ninth grade dramatized “Silas

Marner in chapel last Fridad morning.
The seventh grade dramatized Enoch
Arden several days ago for the
eighth grade. The story of the
latter will run in next week’s Bul
, letin.
A Christmas program by the fifth
and sixth grades was given in chapel
• Friday morning Dee 10. directed by
Miss Nan Wood. The program was
a Pantomine, “The Queen of the
Days’’- It was well presented and
I very much enjoyed.
i These programs every Friday
i morning are instructive as well as
I entertaining. They last only fifteen
or twenty minutes so why not come

out and for that short time and en
courage your child and help the school
spirit as a whole.
Wilkinson county schools observed
Education Week this past week.
The object of this was to acquaint the
parents with the policies and duties
of the Board of Education as well as
the urgent need of Education in
Wilkinson County as well as else
where. Mr. Carswell gave a
splendid talk Wednesday morning,
one that every patent should have
heard. He d welt somewhat cm the
number of pupils who quit school
each year, whentherc isn't any excuse
whatever for them doing so. Next
week we will give you the statistics
of this county and let you sec for
yourself the suprising number of
boys and girls in this county who
leave school without completing the
seventh grade.

big business concern of the country
which would have used all the space
in the paper. Folks do behave in
publicity for thev go to lots of trouble
to write it and mail it to the p ipers- -
but they must think editors are ou
the government payroll as pensioners-
We'll tell them it is a mistake.
President Coolidge says the govern
ment should't do the farmer’s farming.
The farmer will decide to help his
own self someday.
