Gordon’s Outlook
Gordon is economically and finan

what had set backs and financial
disaster for a while. Big things can
not go al ng always without some
mishap The I i-.rger the things the
bkget the mishap. Why they even
have ou railroads with the best of
trains and the m st substantial tracks.
Some times a wh >le family gets down

The Condition in Georgia
Mr. H. G. Hast ings, President 'of
the Georgia Association has made a
carefull analysis of the farming
situation in Georgia. He t:ok for a
study one of Georgia’s best average
counties. He found that after adding
up the cost of the average farm and
deducting that amount from the gross
sales this left a gross profit of $42.52
per farm. Out of that amount is to
be paid taxes, clothes for the family,
insurance, church support, implements
and the other sundry expenses for the
farm. This may no! seem real but it
is true. That is the farming situa
tion in Georgia. Surely we will
have to turn about ami make a
change. That kind of farming is eat
ing into the capital of every farmer
in this State.
Before farming ever becomes a
success again farmers will have to be
salesmen. They will be farm
merchants so to speak, They must
quit buying except what they are
compelled to and raise a big varied
surplus of something to sell. Grow
something that does not cost so much
to grow for market. Always have on
hand to sell meat, potatoes, peas,
surplus corn, beans, irish potatoes
and in fact everything even 2 or 3
hundred pounds of honey hen we
down here in the South quit buying
so much and get ready to go to selling
instead conditions will change.
A Better Paper
We are going to give to the county
the best paper that has ever been
published here. For six years or
more we have been struggling under
the worst handicaps that any poor
paper owners ever labored with.

Cotton Increase
The State of California is about t>
turn to cotton. Iris estimated ths
if the Swing Jobnsoa hill now pendin
in Congress pa^sess appropriating on<
hundred and twenty five million
dollars for the Boulder imm project
one of whose ends is «o make the
Imperial Valley of Cait I niiia a, grea .
cotton producing region This dam
will give that valley eight times that
of the largest reservotes of the world
This water will be used for irrigation
of fertile End for the growth of cotton.
This acreage«will yield one million
bales of cotton to the ir. sent crop.
Other advantages thes California,
cotton farmers will have is that they
will have no boll weevil, they wilt
not have to usq fertilizer, they can
make more cotton per acre than we
can, they will not have to depend o t
rain, they are in range of great se
ports and have excellent manufactur
ing conditions.
This is not a “report’’ or “ project”
if this bill passess Congress. The
dam will be built and California
will be in the cotton business. We in
the South had just as well tak :
notice. We have been drifting aloii .
year in and year out making cotto.

property of Victoria Sanders and
Myrtle (Sanders) Hall has applied to
me by petition for leave to sell their
3-4 undivided interest with Warren

real estate in High Hill District,
G. M. Wilkinson county, Georgia,
containg 88 acres more or less, and
; bounded as follows: On the East and
South bv Joel Collins and J. 0.
Davi-Ison; on the South-west bv
George Butler West by Mrs, hi C.
Collies and Tris Butler and North bv
Randall Jackson. The said applica-
and corn and buying our rations from
stores. We have failed to build up
our lend and our yield per acre is low
and evpense of production is high.
As a result we are in an ecnomic
condition that means destruction.
Our cotton acreage should be less and
more intensively cultivated; our
smoke houses should be filled with
meat; our cribs with corn; our barn
with hay and lofts with peas. We
should also sell some potatoes. In
other words we must raise all we can
and sell it for what we can and have
a variety. When we go to town we
should carry something to town to
sell instead of buying readless of low
the price because we can under that ।
plan live and make ends meet and as
it is we a e not doing that now.

agriculture, and eve.ybody agrees to
the statement before he gets through
making it. Being told how import

farmer gets from his farming.

Sending currency by mail is always risky. A check on
your bank, ora Mew York draft is always safe, costs nothing
and acts as a receipt.
If it gets lost or stolen you can immediately stop payment
and issue a duplicate.
Your creditor would prefer a check —it is so much more
easily handled, and payment by check gives you a prestige
with your creditor.
