Sell Food in the East Tax Round, Second
Atlanta, Ga., Oct. ,- - The oppor
tunity of the South to sell food
products in Eastern markets is the
subject of the leading article in the
current issue of the S)uthern Field,
published by the Development
Service of Southern Railway System.
The greatest market for food
producte® in the United States is in
the densely populated strip along the
Atlantic Coast from- the Potomac
River to Portland, Main. It is a
section that cannot feed itself. It
makes a great variety of manufactures
which are bought in the South.
Nearness and quick transportation
service give the South a great adyant
age in this market. It is also pointed
out that growing ‘cities and towns
throughout the South are providing
the southerl\: farmer and horticulturist
with a constantly increasing home
market,
Other articles 1n this issue of the
Southern Field emphasize the
opportunities of the South for dairy
ing, poultry and all branches of live
stock farming and corn an? cotton
production. An article is devoted to
carpet grass - - the most valuable
pasture grass in the Southern "Coast
‘al Plain area. Experiments with a

ing fruits and vegetables in an
absolutely fresh state are described.

basket ball team defeated the Tooms

score was 17 to 39 in favor of the

The Y. P. A gave a costume Hall
owe'en party Saturday night, Oct. 27.
The business department class room
was us(/ad for the purpose, and was ap
propriately decorated in the Halloween
colors, Miss Mary Durdén won the
prize for the best and most original
costume among the girls, and Elmore
Stuart among the boys.
The male quartette of Middle Ga,
College sang at the Baptist Sunday
School last Sunday to an Jappreciative
audience. They have already been in-
vited to'sing at several gatherings
soon. :
Miss Mettie Shaw, bookkeeper and
treasure of Middle Ga. College, has
been seriously ill for some weeks, and
Pres. Browing has secured the services
of Miss Marion Hoben of Atlanta to
take this place. Miss Hoben comes
highly recommended.
Cachran, Ga., Oct. 30, 1926 A
very important meeting of the full
Board of Trastees of Middle Ga.
A. & M. Jr. College will be held in
the library of the college next Friday
morning, Nov. 2, at 10 o’clock.
Every member has been urged to
attend, and the Hon. Eugene
Talmadge. Commissioner of Agri
culture, has been invited, and has
accepted the invitation, Several .
other prominent school men of the
state will be present to advise with
the Board in its important work.
Plans will be offered the Board for
the future progress of the school, and
many suggestions will be made.
The Board has also been invited to
remain for the championship South
(a. game between the football teams
of the South Ga. A. & M. College of
Tifton. a four year colleg‘e, and the |
Middle Ga. A. & M. Jr, College of
Cochran, Neither team has been
defeated by a South Ga. team. It
will be a hectic battle throughout the
four quarters. No prettier game of
football will be played in South Ga.

promptly at 3:30 Friday afternoon.
Middle Ga. won a splendid game
from Brewton-Parker Jr. College .
Monday afternoon, Oct. 22, by the ,
score of 14 to 6. The game was
played at Eastman, and the folks of
that thriviog little city gave the two ]
teams a large crowd of enthusiastic
spectators. ‘

Macon’s 1929 Opera |
Announcement has been made by
the Macon Grand Opera Association |
that the following operas will be pre
sented during Macons 1929 season by
the San Carlo Grand Opera Company,
which played here last year to capaci
ty houses for the entire week: La Bo
heme, Riggoletto, Martha, Forza del
Destino, Romeo and Juliet, Il Trova
tore, Tales of Hoffman, and Lucia di
Lammermoor. Grand Opera week
will be from January 7 to 12. Macon,s
municiple auditorium will again be

Stock Company
Macons amusement facilities will
be added to by the Scott-Mansfield
Players, a dramatic stock company of
high quality which will begin playing
in the Grand Theatre here November
12. The Macon Chamber of Commerce
and the Macon Utility Club is co
operating with this organization in
getting located in Macon for the win
ter season.
