Mrs Minnie Bennett Dies
After Brief Illness
Mrs Minnie Lee Player Bennett,
widow of T. W. Bennett, of Macon,
died early Saturday morning at the
home of Mrs M. E, Player in Irwin
ton, where she was stricken with ap
oplexy.
Mrs Bennett Was the mother es
Mrs Lincoln McConnell, wife of the
former manager of the Macon Cham
ber of Commerce, and lived with her
until Mr McConnell’s recent removal
to Atlanta. She was the stepmother
of Mrs J. R. Hatfield and W. W.
Bennett, of Macon, Her children
and Mr McConnell, who is now with
the Atlanta convention bureau, were
at her bedside when she died at 4:45
o’clock.
Mrs Bennett was born in Wilkinson
county 68 years ago, and had lived in
Macon 44 years. She was a member
of the First Presbyterian church, Ma
con. She was a frequent visitor to
Irwinton and her haupy, friendly dis
position endeared her to a large cir
cle of friends both old and young
who are deeply grieved by her pass

For the past several weeks she
had been visiting Mrs Player. She
had planned to join the McConnells
in Atlanta later in the summer.
Besides the relatives mentioned,
she is survived by a sister, Mrs Laura
Walker of Thomasville.
Funeral services were held at the
chapel of Connally and Pitts, Macon.
Dr, W. R. Mackay, pastor of the
First Presbyterian church, and Dr.
J. Ellis Sammons, of the Vineville
Baptist church, officiated. Robert
Quinlan, violinist, played.
Interment was in the Riverside
cemetery wrh the following as pall
bearers: W. T. Anderson. P, T, An
derson, Sr., Dr. O. H Weaver. Dr.
Frampton Farmer, Dr. Roy Respess,
W. H. M. Weaver, Sr., W- H. M.
Weaver, Jr., and Joe Daniel.
Carriers Con vention
The Tenth District Rural Carriers’
convention convened at Irwinton on
Saturday, May 30, in its 27th annual
convention with B. C. Kitchens, pres
ident presiding. The woman’s aux
iliary of the organization convened at
the same time.
FRIDAY, JUNE 5, 1931
The convention was compsed of
delegates from each county in the
Tenth Congressional district and
therere were about 250 present.
The invocation was by Rev. J, C.
Saville, Methodist pastor, who is
also temporary rural carrier of
Irwinton, and the welcome address
was By John, S. Dayis, The
audience was entertained by the Dixie
quartet: Miss Louise Billue, Miss
Mary Lizzie Hitchcock, Miss Doro
thy Billue, Miss Bernice Hitchcock.
Among the speakers were Geo. H.
Carswell, B, C. Kitchens and C. F.
Hall.
After the speaking and musical pro
gram had been completed the can
vention went into executive session
for the purpose of electing officers
and selection of the next place of
meeting. The officers elected were as
follows: Williard Holley of Blythe,
president and delegate to the nation
al convention; I. F. Billue. of Irwin
ton, vice president, and L. M. Brown
was re-elected secretary and treasurer,
Harlem was selected as the next place
to hold the convention.
The woman’s auxiliary elected the
following officers: Mrs, W. T, Ivey,
Linccoiuton, president; Mrs. A. D.
Luckey, Harlem, vice president, and
Mrs. A, G. Adams, Augusta, secre
secretary and treasurer.

The delegates elected to represent
the Tenth district in the Los Angeles
notional convention were instructed
to vote for the next national conven
tion to be held at Washington, D. C,,
or as near Washington as possible,
in honor of the first president of the
United States. The convention also
adopted unanimously a resolution ex
tending thanks to the woman’s aux
iliary and the carriers of Wilkinson
county for the entertainment given
them.
The convention then adjourned and
all went to the camp ground
about two miles south of Irwinton
where a fish dinner was served.
Af.er dinner was finished the local
baseball team played the Deepstep
team a game of baseball.
Sheriff T. Sanders
Honored
At the convention of county officers
in Macon. Sheriff T. Sanders of
Wilkinson, was awareded one of The
Atlanta Constitutions prizes for the
most eutstanding services by officers
during the year. His award was for
the speedy and effective handling of
the case of the murder of Frances
Fountain, aged negro woman, in this
county,
Mr Sanders’ picture appeared in
the Constitution with other winners
last Sunday.
