Dies in Macon
Robert Lee Smith, 68, former mayor
protem of Macon and former chairman
of the finance committee of city conn- |
cil died last Friday morning at his :
home, 117 Clisby p'ace.
Funeral services were h-ld at home |
Saturday afternoon with Dr. Aquila
Chamlee, president of B-ssie Tif‘t col
le re, and Dr. Charles E. Burts, pastor .
of the First Baptist chureh, officiating.
Bunal was in the Rive:sside cemetery.
Mr Smith was a member of the board
of tax assessors.
He was born in Wilkinson county
but went to Macon as a young mat;was
employed by the Macon Grocery com
pany, and later became its viee presi
dent. After this business connection,
he was president of the Southland Kni
tting mills. He sold his interest in
that business and retired five yearsago
He was a member of the first Baptist
church, and of the Masonie order.
He is survived by his widow, who
was before her marriage Miss Rosa El
der, of Indian Springs; his daughter.
Mrs Dan Davis, of Macon, and other
relatives. His sister, Mrs J. B. Free
man, of Irwinton, died two weeks ago.

Miss Maggie Cummings

Funeral services for Miss Maggie |
Cummings, 80, were held last Friday .
at the Stanley burial ground in Lau
rens county. Miss Cummings passed
away Thursday at the home of her
niece, Mrs James Burke. in Cedartown
after an illness of some time, J
Miss Cummings was born and reared
in Wilkinson ceunty and leaves a host
of friends to mourn her passing.
She is suivived by two sisters: Mrs
M. E. Rawls, Dublin and Mrs C. E.
Davis of (iordon. ;

Mr W L. Freeman brought seme
fine honey to town during the week
and found a ready market for it. This
honey is good and is put up in appe
tizing manner.
The play presented by pupils from
Gordon school was enjoyed by a large
audience.
Court adjourned Thursday after a
busy session,
Friends of Mrs E. Johnson regret
that she has been quite sick for sev
eral days,
Olan Bragg in the city Friday. He
has been in western Texas some time,
J. T. Simpson is doing floor sur
facing in the L. L. Petty home.
It’s Ice Cream time at Johnson’s
and some interesting new kinds.
