Rabies Information
Rabies in animals in Georgia has
shown a decided increase in recent
years. The disease in humans aver
ages about three a year. The num
ber or livestock which die each year
from the disease in the state is tre
mendous. It is not advisable for any
owner to depend entirely on vaccine
to protect dog from rabies, Do not
kill suspected dog too early, he may
be in first stages of rabies, and brain
when examined may show no evi
dence of the disease and yet the sali
va may be infected and dangerous.
Keep the dog confined a week, if it
remains alive and well a week from
date of biting, it was not rabid.
Treatment is necessary only when
the person’s skin is broken by a bite
or scratch; when fresh wounds are
touched by saliva; or the exposure in
children is uncertain; or with high
strung people who cannot be other
wise satisfied.
