One Hundred Years Old
The Central of Georgia Railway’s
centennial is discussed by H. D. Pol
lard, receiver of that railroad, in a
statement published today. Mr Pol
lard says:
“On December 15, 1835, one
hundred years ago, the first rail was
laid at Savannah for the Central of
Georgia Railway. Throughout the
territory now served by the railroad

cipal celebration will naturally be at
Savannah where the road had its ac
tual beginning. Here the Employes
Club of the railroad has arranged an
ambitious program covering several
days and including an historical pa

transportation from the early days.”
The pageant '‘Redskins to Rail
roads” mentioned by Mr Pollard will,
it is understood, be more than a sum
mary of railroad development, as it
will show the development of trans
port in Georgia from the days before
the white men came. It will consist
of ten big episodes and use more than
750 men, women and children in its
cast.
‘‘ln recent years there have been
other railway centennials, each with
its historical interest but the distin
guishing and significant characteristic
of this one is that the people we serve
and the employes who serve those
people are uniting to honor an insti
tution that for a hundred years has
been a part of their lives and the
lives of their forbears.
“In its relations with the Bublic,
the Central of Georgia has endeavor
ed to render prompt, adequate and
dependable transportation, to build up
and develop its territory and to be a
good citizen and friendly neighbor in
each community it serves. Our em
ployes, our patrons and our friends
at this time of our hundredth anni
versary have made us know that our
nurposes are understood and appre
