Miss Barbara Chambers
On Dean’s Li&
Milledgeville. Miss Barbara Cham
bers, of Toomsboro, is included on
the current Dean’s list of the Georgia
State College for Women, where she
is a member of the senior class. To
be eligible to this scholastic honor a
general average of 87 or above is
required-
The list on which Miss Chambers’
name appears is based on the work of
the winter quarter which ended on
March 18. During the past quarter
Miss Chambers has worked as a cadet
teacher in the Fulton county school
system. Her work there was of such
quality as to merit her inclusion on
the Dean’s list.
Miss Ellen Brundage
Miss Ellen Brundage, 82, died last
Thursday at home in Irwinton after a
long illness The funeral service was
held at the Irwinton church on Fri
day by Rev. Goddard.
Miss Brundage had made her home
with Mr T. A. Brundage, a nephew,
ror a number of years. She was a
member of the Friendship Primitive
Baptist church.
She is suryived by brothers, A R.
Brundage, Pelham, D. L.. of States
boro, L. M , of Macon; nephew T. A.
Brundage: niece Mrs T. A. Gibbs of
Gordon.
The interment was in the Brund
age cemetery near Friendship church.
Horton-Hoover
Miss Mary Horton and Mr James
Hoover were married April 4 in Ir
winton by Judge J. E- Butler, Ordin
ary.
The bride is daughter of Mr and
Mrs S. Horton of Bethel, and Mr '
Hoover is son of Mr and Mrs I. P.

Mrs Mims Storm Vidtim
Many friends in Wilkinson county
are saddened by news of the death of
the wife of Elder Mims, pastor of the <
Friendship Primitive Baptist church i
near Irwinton. She was killed by <
the tornado in Cordele.
Irwinton Girl Debates
Cher Air
The G. S. G. W. program over
WMAZ, Macon. Tuesday afternoon
at 3;30 was of .special interest to a
large number of people in Wilkinson
county. At this time there was a
debate when the four varsity debaters
clashed over the air. Miss Sue Lind
sey, daughter of Mrs Rosa Lindsey of
Irwinton, was one of the four speak
ers. Dr. E G. Cornelius was coach
of the Varsity team; the announcer,
Mrs Nelle W om ack Hines.
J. F. Jackson
Funeral services for J. F. Jackson
67 were held Wednesday. April 8, at
Pleasant Plains church, and interment
was in the church cemetery.
Mr Jackson died at his home near
Danville Tuesday after a long illness.
He was born in this county and was
son of the late Joe Jackson Sur

Meeting of Gordon R T. A. is set
for this afternoon. Humane Educa
tion will be discussed by Mr Alfred
Frazier. A play will be presented by
Mrs George DuPree. Mrs Emory
Stokes, Mrs Ed Kingery.
S4OO Tornado Relief
Wilkinson County-Chapter Ameri
can Red Cross has already mailed
$205 of its S4OO quota for relief of
tornado sufferers in Cordele, Gaines -
yille and other towns. The balance
is being raised as rapidly as possible,
both white and colored people are re
sponding to the call. The destruc
tion of life and property is the worst
in the history of the state. Near
four hundred dead, thousands seri
ously injured, other thousands home
less The contributions are pouring
in but the people are assured there is
no danger of giving too much.

Out of the Mud
The work on the street in front of
courthouse has stood up under a hard
test during court week and is appre
ciated by people of the county who
say. Thank you, Commissioners.
