Judge Hugh Chambers R- L- Sanders
Funeral services for Judge , Hugh
Chambers, municipal court jurist
who died early Sunday morning after
a short illness, were held at 5p m.
Monday in Hart's mortuary chapel,
Dr J. E. Sammons, pastor of the
Vineyille Baptist church, officiating.
Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
Pallbearers were members of Judge
Chambers’ court staff.
Members of the Macon Bar Asso
ciation formed an honorary escort.
Judte Chambers, for more than 20
vears on the municipal couit bench,
died in a Macon hospital at l;30 a.m
Sunday.
Under treatment for an abcessed
lung. Judge Chambers developed
pneumonia late Friday ai d spent a
day of critical illness Saturday.
The jurist had been in ill health
for several weeks, and with Mrs
Chambers had spent a vacation in
Florida. They returned to Macon
seve.al days ago and Judge Cham
bers was able to visit his office. He
did not resume his duties on the
bench.
He told his friends last Tuesday
that he had been advised to go to the
hospital for an additional rest, and
was admitted there Wednesday.
Judge Chambers, a native’ of Ir
winton, first was elected to the muni
cipal court bench in 1915. He had
resided for many years at 140(> Vine
ville avenue.
Surviving are his wife and two
daughters, Mrs Murray R. Gardner,
and Mrs R. Douglas Feagan, Jr ; two
brothers, E. H. Chambers, of Deca
tur, and Frank B. Chambers of
Toomsboro; a sister, Mrs E. H. Baker
of Macon; and two grandchildren,
Susanne and Murray R. Gardner, Jr.

J. L. Dean
James L. Dean, 84, di d at his
home near Toomsooro Saturday, May
16. Funeral services were held on
Sunday afternoon at the Ebenezer
Baptist church, by Rev. J. E. Towns
end. The graveside service was in
charge of the Toomsboro lodge ot
Masons.
Mr Dean was the oldest member of
the Toomsboro lodge and for over 30
years served as worshipful master-
Surviving are his wife, the former
Miss Eve'yn Freeman, and three
daughters, Mrs R. V. Humphreys,
Mrs J. T. Simpson, Miss Bertha
Dean; four sons, Leon and Calvin
Dean, and F. M. and Julian Deanjone
brother, Mr Milton Dean.
R. L. Sanders died.' at his home
near Gordon May 11, after an illness
of several weeks. Mr Sanders was
a former superintendent of the county
farm.
Rev Lowery Anderson conducted
the funeral services at the Methodist
church and interment was in Tharpe
cemetery.
He is survived by daughters: Miss
Hilda Sanders. Mrs Mildred Bonner
man; sons, J. B , and Emmet, Alva
and Ralph Sanders.

The P. T. A- met Thursday
afternoon May 7. The following
officers were elected: Mrs J H.
Duggan, Pres; Mrs Roger Mills,
Vice President: Miss Clara Beall,
Secretary, and Mrs J. M. Hall,
Treasurer.
Three committees were ap
pointed to sponsor programs
during the summer.
The statement of the treasurer
showed that a net profit of $575,
44 had been made this term—
s4oo of this amount is being
used —as a loan —on the new

Goes to Dawson
Mr Royce Shepherd, son of
Mr and Mrs J. J. Shepherd, has
recently been elected cashier of
a new banking institution at
Dawson. For several years Mr
Shepherd has been liquidating
agent for the state banking de
partment, and for the past four
years has been liquidating the
Bank of Arlington, the Bank of
Kestler at Damascus, Citizens
Bank at Blakely, and Bank of
Fort Gaines. Previous to his
