Miss Martha Jackson
Entertains
Toomsboro, July 21.
One of the loveliest affairs of this
season was a miscellaneous shower
given by Miss Martha Jackson, Fri
day afternoon, in honor of Mrs Cecil
B Stevens, who, before her recent
marriage was Miss Leila Cason. The
guests were met at the door by little
Miss Naomi Duncan who was dressed
as a negro maid. She presented each
of the guests to the receiving line
which was composed: Mesdames P. M.
Jackson. L. R Cason Jr., Cecil
Stevens, A C. Todd, Misses Addie
gene Cason, Elizabeth Todd, and
Martha Jackson. A delightful pro
gram was presented, one feature of
which was a song, “I Love You Truly
by Pittman Jackson. The gilts were
presented by Miss Naomi Duncan who
brought them in a clothes basket and
announced that she had brought Mrs
Stevens “the wash ” After the pre
sentation of the gifts a delicious sand*
wich and punch course was served.

The Allentown P. O. P. club took
a trip to the beach last Sunday and
had a good time.
Last Thursday was the day of the
election for Mayor and Council of Al
lentown.
Mrs A. T. Land, Miss Georgia
Land, and Master A. T. Land, Jr.
motored over to Danville Monday af
ternoon. -
Mr W. C. Shelnutt, Jr. and Mr
W. C. Adams, Jr. enjoyed the local
swimming pool Monday afternoon.
Miss Birdie Harper is visiting Mr
and Mrs O- E. Butler.
Mr and Mrs G. M. Toney have as
their guests Mn Ed Carr and son. of
Eastman,
Mrs E. C. Adams entertained her
Bunday school class with a watermel
on cutting Sunday afternoon.
Mr Willis Allen made a business
trip to Irwinton Monday.
Prom Party
Miss Sai ah Butler entertained
several of her friends last Friday
evening with a prom party. Those
being present were: Misses Mildred
Anderson. Josephine Hubbard, Eliza
beth Williams, Sue Dixon, Faye Cul
pepper, Jessie Williams, Nelle Rut
land, and Evelyn Gordon; Messrs
Robert Maddox. Vrank Bacon. Wil

sey, Dean Duggan, Ben Mercer, and
Brett Bacon.
Marines Vacancies
Examinations for the selection
of a limited number of young
men from this area for enlist
ment in the U S. Marine Corps
will be held during August at
the District Recruiting Office
Municipal Auditorium, Macon,
Ga, it was announced today by
Major J. M. Tildsley, officer in
charge.
Applicants to be examined at
Macon will be selected frcm
among those submitting their
physical qualifications, as deter
mined by their physicians, on
forms obtained from that head
quarters.
The maxium age for applicants
enlisted in August has been set
at 28 years. The minimum age
is 18 years.
Men enlisted will be assigned
to Parris Island S C., for eight
weeks training. Then they be
come ^legible for service at ma
rine stations at home and abroad
and with marine detachments
serving on battleships, cruisers
and airplanes carriers, Major
Tildsley said

her two sisters, Misses Elsie
and Leila Brinson, of Wrights
ville, with a prom party Friday
night. Those enjoying the proms
