MR. and MRS. J. J. SHEPHERD
- Mr. and Mrs. Jack J. Shepherd
observed their 60th wedding an
niversary on Sunday, Dec. 19, at
their home near Irwinton.
Numerous friends and relatives
called during the day to express
congratulations and best wishes.
Although ho official celebration
was planned, an informal group
received during the afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd were
married on Dec 20, 1894, in Wilk
inson County, with the Reverend
W. S. Baker, retired Methodist
minister, officiating. Mrs. Ada
Mason of Atlanta, and Mrs. Ar
thur Butts of Gordon both were
present at the wedding and were
present for this anniversary.
Mrs. Shepherd was the former
Fannie Simpson, daughter of the
late Mark Simpson and Sara Mc-
Cullars* Simpson of Wilkinson
County. Mr. Shepherd is the son

Dr. Ware again wishes to ex
press his deepest appreciation to
his many friends in the ’Boro and
vicinities for the many acts of
kindness shown him in his recent
illness. The deeds of kindness
have been too numerous to name
He personally wants to thank
each and every one who contrib
uted so generously to his comfort
and happiness. He was in Rich
ard Binion Clinic three weeks re
cently. He is how at home.
We appreciated being missed
last week. Cake baking alone did
n’t hold us down but flu and vir
us infections played a major part
There were several families hit
with it during the past week and
some of us still not over it Just
hope Christmas will find every
one well and able to enjoy the hoi
idays.
We hope to join the many who
will go back home for Christmas.
As long as our parents live we
should join them on Christ’s birth
day, and we expect to de that.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Kaminsky
will spend the holibays in Penn
sylvania with Victtr’s parents.
This young couple has made ma
ny friends here who regret to
lose them. They are moving into

Jane Gainey Shepherd.
Mr. Shepherd, who is 82. is
living on the same place where
he grew up as a boy, having ne
ver moved. Mrs. Shepherd is 79.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd
have been members of Friend
ship Primitive Baptist Church
for 45 years, having been baptiz
ed together after their marriage.
Mr. Shepherd served as church
clerk for 35 years.
Mr and Mrs. Shepherd are the
parents of five living children
and two who are deceased. They
are Mrs. T. W. Bell; Mrs. Jessie
S. Bell, John M. Shepherd and J.
H. Shepherd, all living in the
county, and Mrs E C. Lavender,
of Salina. Kansas. They have 8
grandchildren and 7 great-grand
children.

the Roy Landers in Mclntyre at
an early date.
Mrs Hopson Morgan and Miss
Bobbie of Palatka, Fla. stopped
recently to see the Hollimans for
a short visit, bringing news of
Mrs. F. S. Cobb of Palatka who
was a neighbor at one time.

of Winder stopped enroute t o
Florida to see Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Dixon.

All kinds of interesting things
are happening out at the new
school. Mrs. Adkins brought us
some copy about aGE A Christ
mas Party at the school lunch
room Monday night, which we
hope to give in full next week.
Then, they say the Teen-Age
Recreational < lub, recently or
ganized, held its first meeting in
the new gym. About 75 young
people were present Betty Rose
Turner of Gordon was elected
president and Judy Ann Carswell
was named treasurer.
Interested parents in all towns
in the county had attempted to
foster such a g r o u p, but were
handicapped due to lack of space
We lack space too.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thomp
son announce the engagement of
their only daughter. Joyce, to
Charles Miller, younger s o n of
Mr and Mrs. Ennie Miller. The
marriage will take place at the
Toomsboro Methodist church on
Thursday, Dec 23, and the recep
tion will follow in the church par
lors.
Joyce received her college ed
ucation at G.S.T.C , Statesboro
where she received her B 8 De
gree in August. She has been a
member of the Toomsboro school
faculty during the fall months.
Charles is also aT. C graduate
having received his degree i n
1952, and since then he has been
serving in the armed forces. He
returned recently from Korea
and has a discharge from the
Army.
This young couple will make
their home near Leslie, where he
owns a farm. Jovce will teach in
the Leslie school. We wish this
fine young coaple much hapr -
ness in their life together.
The members of the Toomsbo
ro faculty are honoring Miss
Thompson with a miscellaneous
shower in the lunchroom Dec 22
from 3p. m to 5 p. m. A host of
friends have been invited to at
