Show Skills and Talents
’Members of the Clayton County
4-H Club along with County Agents
Mr. Charles Tucker and Mrs. Mary
Singleton were guests on the 4-H
Television Program directed by
Miss Para Lee Brock on Satur
day March 30 on Channel 2.
The impressive half hour pro
gram included demonstrations by
members of 4-H with Gail Hilvc
rink acting as mistress of cere
monies. Gail is chairman of the
Clayton County 4-H council and an
active 4-H worker.
Mrs. Martha Harrison. Asociate
State 4-H Leader, commended the
community leaders for helping in
4-H work. Approximately 960 mem
bers are on the Clayton County
4-H roll and without the help of
these leaders the Agents would be
greatly limited in their program.
Mrs. Mary Singleton introduced
the leaders: Mrs. Hugh Brown,
Mrs. J. E. Pace, Mrs. J. B. John
son and Mr. Walton Simmons.
For the demonstrations Georgia
Ann Brown showed how she used
a little textile paint and artificial
flowers to decorate her ballerina
shoes and give them personality.
Carol Skelton spoke of her home
planting.
A step by step method of mak
ing case curtains was given by
Gloria Callaway. Brenda Brown
gave her method of making bis
cuits.
The Four Larks, a vocal group,
composed of Barbara Jarrard Bu
ford Adams, Lorraine Yonce and
Bill Flynn, were accompanied on
the piano by Brenda Bell. Glora
Swygert played a piano solo.
A model brooder house was dis
cussed by Donald Johnson and
Jimmy Pace spoke of his dairying
project. A worxing electrical lay
out was shown by Robert Pat
rick.
The program was proof of what
amazing accomplishments can be
made by young people whose en
ergies have been channeled into
worthwhile acitvity.

Sympathy is extended to Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Wilson and fam

Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Mabry and
family have recently moved to
North Lake Drive from their
home on Thames Road in Forest
Park. We welcome the Mabry
family to Lake City.
Friends are extending get well

Main Street who is a patient in
Veterans’ Hospital No. 48.
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Merriman
motored to Fieldale, Virginia re
cently for a visit to Mr. Merri

man’s father who is ill.
Mrs. Philip Lancaster is con
falescing at her home at 350 Main
, Street after an automobile acci
dent which occurred as she was
entering her driveway. She was
knocked from the car by an ap
proaching vehicle. Examination at
the hospital revealed a head lac
eration, bruises and shock. Her
friends wish for her a speedy re
covery.
M-Sgt. and Mrs. Joseph J. Jar
acz and children, Mary Fran and
David, have arrived from Fort
Bragg, North Carolina and have
moved into an apartment in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jer
nigan on South Avenue in Lake
City. M-Sgt. Jaracz will leave soon
for a tour of duty in Germany.
His family will remain in Lake
City for several months before
joining him there. Mrs, Jaracz is
the daughter of Major' and Mrs.
F. M. Blaylock of 283 Main Street,
Lake City, and will be a welcomed
addition to the community during
her stay.
State Drivers Licenses..

tended to May 31 according to a
State Patrol spokesman.
The law requiring issuance of
drivers’ licenses was enacted dur
ing a recent session of the State
Legislature as a fund raising mea
sure. The law does not apply to
veterans who hold lifetime honor
ary drivers’ licenses.

Mrs. Cartledge Hostess
To Demonstration Club
At Jonesboro Meeting
Mrs. Hoke Cartledge was host
ess to the Jonesboro Home Dem
onstration Club at her home on
March 21 for the regular monthly
meeting of the organization.
Presiding over the business meet
ing was Mrs. Lloyd Brown. A dis
cussion was held concerning the
dress review which is scheduled
to be held in May.

On Character Building
The Senior Tri-Hi-Y of Jonesboro
High School participated in a mon
th of talks from February 22 thro
ugh March 19 with the talks being
given by local ministers.
Pastors participating in the talks
were Reverend Philo McKinnon of
the Presbyterian Church, Rever
end John Bull, Baptist Church
and Reverend Frank Prince, Me
thodist Church. The talks dealt
with subjects of interest to high
school age students and included
such subjects as the harmfulness
of alcohol, various aspects of loy
alty to one's country and how

erly.

Chapter Announces
Officers For 1956
Mrs. E. B. Hart has announced
the officers of the Clayton County
Polio Chapter for 1956.
Mr. E. B. Hart and Mrs. C. G.
Berry were reelected as Chair
man and Vice-Chairman. Mrs. E.
B. Hart was reelected Secretary.
Maj. Oren Haynes was elected
Treasurer, Mrs. G. D. Nunnally
was elected Publicity Chairman
and Mrs. Allen Kemper was elect
ed Chairman of Women’s Activi
ties.
A new policy was set up begin
ning this year. The executive com
mittee will meet every other mon
th to transact business. This will
be on the fourth Tuesday night of
the month at the Forest Park City
Hall. It is an open meeting the
public is invited to attend.

the National Heart Fund by Clay
ton County during the recent drive
according to Dr. Albert W. Car
ter, chairman, and Mrs. Fred Far
mer, vice-chairman.

selected as student of the month
at Forest Park High School.
A senior, Eleanor has attended
Forest Park School since the first
grade. She is active in a number
of extra-curricular activities in
cluding Tri-Hi-Y, Future Home
makers of America, the Beta, Sp
anish and Drama clubs and serves
as secretary-treasurer of the sen
ior class. Other activities include
that of business manager of the
Panther Press, the high school
newspaper, and she serves on the
staff of the high school annual and
as a representative in the student
council.

Rawls came to Clayton County in
1947 and established the low Temp
Mfg. Co. which is now doing a half
million dollar business a year and
growing rapidly, with orders a
year ahead. They are stainless
steel fabricators, manufacturing
hotel, restaurant, school and hos
pital equipment. They also build
custom built refrigerators. Two
years ago Mr. Rawls set up the
Georgia Maple Block Co. to manu
facture meat blocks, Kitchen table
tops, cutting blocks, lavatory tops
and work table tops for industry.
This business is expanding rapidly
having doubled in the two years
since its beginning.

Liturgical Service For
Easter Held By Local \
Methodist Church
Liturgical service for the Festi
val of Easter was held at St. Ti
mothy’s Luthern Church, 155 Ash
Street. The service was conducted
by Pastor R. J. Crouse.
As the background for the festi
val, the chancel was decorated
with white lillies, and the par
ments were in white linen, which
is appropriate for the season. Eas
ter music was played on the organ
by Mr. R. J. Crouse.
At 5:30, Sunday evening, the
young people of the church (Luth
ern League) had an outdoor meet
ing at the home so Mr. and Mrs.
Lacey Gibbon on Highway 41. The
program was on the events of the
resurrection.
