Transplant of Heart
Marvelous Advance
By CHARLES GOE
Pastor, Ash St. Baptist
Church
The recent transplant of
a human heart is a marve
lous step forward for medi
cal science. It was a great

sorrow for
the world
w hen he
passed away,
but the fact
that he lived
for days
without his
‘body reject
ing the new
organ was a
real victory.
Transplants are possible
now with major organs of
the body allowing one indi
vidual to save the life of
another for indefinite pe
riods of time.
A doctor, who is in the
space program, said last Ap
ril in San Francisco that the
big problem today was to
try to know which patient
was the most deserving or
the most needful for family
or society. There are many
individuals whose lives could
be saved if they had the new
organs.
Reflecting upon the past
and projecting into the fu
ture, we see an analogy in
relationship to our daily
lives. Many people could go
on living profitably if they
had new hearts. Hate, greed
selfishness and sin clogs up
the human heart and makes
it unable to function prop
erly.
In history’s short span, He
lived only a short time be
cause He was rejected of
men. He came to save men
from themselves and for
eternity. Their old ways were
so set and solid that they
didn’t want Him. The hard

ened hearts and malad
justed lives didn’t want the
One who knew more about
life than anyone ever had
or will.
When the old way of life
possesses one, it cannot be
changed without radical
surgery. The - unwillingness
of the world of His day to
accept Him made Him un
available to those who re
fused Him.
John writes “He came
unto His own but His own
received Him not, but such
as received Him gave He
power to become the sons of
God.” Many since that day
have submitted themselves
to the hand of the divine
surgeon and have become
new creatures.
Many people during 1967
have lost the joy of living.
Their normal processes have
slowed down — their love for
others has been lost. They
find themselves in spiritual
darkness and without hope.
Lives are often empty with
untold hours of misery piled
on top of each other.
Vainly men have searched
for more time for pleasure,
but it hasn’t satisfied. They
have discovered shorter
working hours, but have
misused their leisure. New
forms of entertainment have
manifested themselves but
they only lead to more emp
tiness of soul.
The greatest transplant in
all of history took place
when God through His Holy
Spirit took the life of His
only son and transplanted it
into a young Virgin named
Mary. She brought forth her
first born son and called His
name Jesus, for He should
save His people from their
sins.
