“I’m sure of one thing,” Sharon Abercrombie says. "People are carrying
as big a tax burden as they can possibly carry. Responsible, efficient gov
ernment doesn't have to assess the people in the name of progress.” Case
in point: Sharon Abercrombie inherited a 5142,000 deficit when he be
came Mayor of Forest Park. While Mayor, lie raised the salaries of police
men, firemen, and other city employees—without upping taxes even one
mill. When he left office, two years later, there was a surplus of .$32,000
in the city treasury. That's how much efficiency can do.
SHARON ABERCROMBIE

underlined by his deeds. Sharon Abercrombie
doesn't waste time talking about what he's
going to do, he just goes out and does it. His
record of public service is a brilliant one. It
demonstrates the capabilities and dedica
tion we must resolve to put to work for all of
Clayton County. That means every one of us
—and you can be sure that his election as
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners will
guarantee a greater future to every citizen
of Clayton County.

Law and order has long been a firm principle with Sharon Abercrombie.
During his public service career, he has helped build one of the finest
police forces in the state. He minces no words when he says, “The first
requisite of a civilized society is the law, and government is charged to
enforce it. There are no excuses for flouting law or disrupting order, and
I propose to completely and diligently enforce our legal structure and
protect all of our citizens all of the time under all circumstances.”

are an absolute necessity, and he wants to continue the building program

time,” he says, “when Clayton County is full of parks, ball fields, gym
nasiums and other recreational centers—with programs for everyone. Let's
start now.”

The Abercrombies: Carolyn, Sharon, and Sherry, along with Bingo and
Tiger. Sharon’s idea of a better life for everyone is simple and true:
"Progress doesn't mean a thing if it doesn't provide meaningful benefits
for each and every one of us. I want to see progress reach the roots of
family living, and then watch it flower.”
