Southern Bell Heads for
Construction Record
Southern Bell’s construction
program for Georgia in 1969
will set a new record for the
ninth consecutive year.
According to Jasper Dorsey,
vice president, the company
will invest some $l2O million
throughout the state for ex
panded and improved tele
phone service this year.
Ken Byers, District Man
ager, said that the company’s
1969 expenditures will include
a number ot service improve
ment projects in this area.
Last year the company’s
construction program in Geor
gia totaled nearly $lO7 mil
lion up almost $lB million
over construction expenditures
for 1967.
Total telephones served by
Southern Bell in Georgia in
creased during 1968 by a
record of 127,000 The com
pany now serves over
1,768,000 telephones m the
state.

June 7 and they will reside in
Pensacola, Fla., where Joel will
begin Naval Flight Training.

dustries. representing a capital
investment of $150,855,460,
located in Georgia during
1068, Joe B. Browder. Georgia
Power Company vice president,
announced this week.
Each industry reported by
the power company is a manu
facturing or processing plant
that has signed a power sales
contract, has a minimum
capital investment of $50,000
and employs at least 10 work
Ihe 1068 figure compares
with 104 new industries, repre
senting a capital investment of
$170,505,000, that came to
Georgia during 1067.
In addition, 131 existing in
dustries invested $142,821,860
to expand their facilities during
1068. In 1067, there were 141
expansions costing
$104,286,500.
The new and expanded
units oi 1968 will employ
15.427 Georgians at annual
wages of $73,110,050. New
manufacturing plants and
additions during 1067 provided
13,000 new jobs at annual
wages of $62,706,700.
