designed to encourage parental awareness of the problems of
youth. County Commission Chairman Sharon Abercrombie has
proclaimed the week beginning Feb. 23 as “Parental Awareness
Week” in Clayton County.
The programs are sponsored by the Youth Protection
Foundation. Inc. in cooperation with the PTA and law enforce
ment agencies. A highlight of the week’s activities will be a
Parental Awareness Seminar on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. til
noon at the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church.
In addition to the local observances planned, Gov. Maddox has
also proclaimed the week as a statewide observance, and churches
throughout the state are being encouraged to devote a portion of
their services to emphasizing the need for parental awareness of
youth and their problems.
Following is the text of Mr. Abercrombie’s proclamation:

Switch to a
flameless electric heat pump
If your home is uncomfortable even one day out of the
year, you have the wrong heating and cooling system.
If you spend five minutes in 10 years adjusting a thermo
stat, you have the wrong heating and cooling system.
The right system is an electric heat pump. In cold
weather, the heat pump keeps you warm. Anywhere in
your house. And the heat pump cools and dries the air
inside when it’s hot and sticky outside.
When you first get a heat pump, you set the thermostat
at the temperature you want. When the seasons change,
the heat pump automatically switches from heating to
cooling to maintain that temperature. You don’t have to
touch anything. Or call anyone.
Make the Great Escape. Make this the year you switch
to an electric heat pump.

Progress
i’he research progress being
made in overcoming birth de
fects warrants greater support
this year than ever for the Jan
uary fund-raising campaign of
the March of Dimes, underway
through January 31st.
While the toll of 250,000
U.S. children afflicted annually
with birth defects, mental and
physical abnormalities, remains
far too high (an estimated
1400 in Fulton County alone
last year) the picture is chang
ing.
Within the last year, science
has made concrete progress to
eliminate birth defects from
two major causes:
I. A new vaccine that can
prevent Rh blood disease.
2. A vaccine against German
measles (rubella) in the final
stages of testing.
Both of these will go into
general use the coming year.
As of December 16th, all
interstate sales of firearms and
ammunition, other than those
between licensed manufactur
ers, dealers and collectors
became federal crimes. The
most restrictive national gun
control law ever enacted was
signed by the President
October 22nd.
