Mobile Nuclear Exhibit
At Grant City South
I'he Georgia Power Com
pany's mobile nuclear exhibit,
“Tomorrow's Power Today,"
will be on exhibit at Grant City
South in lorest Park from
Thursday, March 20 to Wed
nesday, March 26. The public
is cordially invited to visit the
exhibit.
The unit will be open during
shopping center hours. The
exhibit will be closed on
Sundays and Mondays.
Housed in a 36-foot, two
tone nuclear blue and white
trailer, the exhibit was
designed and built especially
for the utility as a showcase to
relate the value and promise of
nuclear power, a field being
entered by Georgia Power
Company

three display rooms Its princi
pal attraction is a theater like
production in a "black light"
center room. There, through

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS. When the youth of Forest Park excel In any
end< vor it reflect.- favorably on our city; and
WHEREAS. Steve Pierce has given of his time to develop
a talent in the sport of basketball and,
WHEREAS. Steve Pierce has indeed developed an out
standing talent in the sport of basketball as demonstrated
by winning the Dribble and Shoot events in the City of
Forest Park and Clayton County, in the Fulton County and
City of Atlanta contests:
Therefore Be it Resolved that the members of this City
Council of the City of Forest Park, Georgia, in behalf of all
its citizens express appreciation, admiration and gratitude
to Steve Pierce for Ins outstanding achievements.
Be it further Resolved, that the members of the govern
ing body of Forest Park, on behalf of all its citizens, congrat
ulate Steve Pierce for winning the Dribble and Shoot cham
pionship of E’orest Park. Clayton County, Fulton County and
City of Atlanta, and express confidence and support as Steve
proceeds toward winning larger and more trying champion
ships.

atom is split, how uranium
pellets are arranged in a fuel
assembly and how a chain
reaction is controlled within
the reactor.
This principal display shows
schematically a coal-fired
generating plant, with a taped
message explaining how elec
tricity is made in such a plant.
By unusual lighting techniques,
this same exhibit changes from
a conventional plant to one
with a nuclear reactor for its
heat source. Then the point is
made
Ihe only operating differ
ence between a coal-fired gen
erating plant and a nuclear
fueled generating plant is the
heat source.
Illuminated panels in the
exhibits other two rooms
depict the varied uses of
nuclear energy in space, agri
culture, medicine, industry and
I power and tell of its advantages
I over fossil fuels.

Track practice dates for the
f orest Park Recreation meet
are April 14, 15, 16, 17, and
18th from 4:00-6:00 at the
Forest Park Kiwanis Football
Stadium. Age Divisions for girls
and boys are 10, 11, 12, 13,
and 14. Control date on age is
January 1, 1969.
Meet dates are: April
21 Girls Running Events;
April 22-Girls Field Events;
April 2 3 Boys Running
Events; April 24 Boys Field
Events Medals will be awarded
to winners, and winners will be
eligible to compete for district,
state, and Junior Olympic
awards.

High and attended University
of Texas in 67 and 68.

73,057 students at the begin
ning of the current winter
quarter, according to figures re
leased .
This represents an increase
of 7,283 students, or 11 per
cent, over the 65,774 students
enrolled in 24 universities and
colleges in the winter quarter
last year.
Macon Junior College has
been opened since the 1968
winter quarter, it was pointed
out.

Construction Budget
Ihe Georgia Power Com
pany this week announced a
record construction budget of
$180.2 million for 1969. Ed
win 1. Hatch, company presi
dent, said this will average
more than $690,000 for each
working day of the year.
Work will continue on the
company’s first nuclear-fueled
generating plant, Plant Edwin
I Hatch, located on the Alta
maha River 10 miles north of
Baxley When the plant goes
j into operation in 1973, it will
: have a generating capacity of
800,000 kilowatts.
Also under construction is a
new steam-electric generating
station on the Etowah River
near Cartersville and Rock
mart When completed, the
plant’s two units will have a
comb i n e d capacity o I
1,400,000 kilowatts. Ihe first
is scheduled to become opera
tional in 1971 and the second
m 1972.
Work is continuing on a
fourth unit at Plant llarllee
Branch, located between
Eatonton and Milledgeville on
the power company's Lake Sin
clair. Power production from
the plant's initial 250,000-kilo
watt generating unit began in
19 65. Unit No 2, of
31 9,000-kilowatt capacity, was
co m ple tedin I 9 67. A
480,000 kilowatt third unit be
came operational in 1968, and
the fourth unit of 490,000-
the age requirements and are
NOE in the 9th Grade, and
have permission to compete
from their track coach.
Shoes must be worn in all
running events. No metal cleats
except track shoes may be
worn.

and is scheduled for power pro
duction in I 970.
An additional 34,000 kilo
watts of generating capacity
will be installed during 1969 at
Plant Arkwright near Macon.
Work will begin on the installa
tion of an additional 80,000
kilowatts at Plant Atkinson
near Marietta. Ihe latter pro
ject will be completed in 1970

Recreation Program
Needs Your Help!
The Morrow-Lake City
Recreation Association has
been making tremendous
strides in clearing the newly-ac
quired property to use in time
for baseball season, but much
more help is needed to com
plete the barest essentials be
fore the April 26th deadline.
The largest part of the tree-cut
ting has probably been done,
but manpower is at a premium,
and for the lack of enough help
last week, over SIOO in cord
wood had to be plowed under
when the bulldozers arrived,
because there was no one to
move it! With money so sorely
needed, and the wood being an
excellent source of income at
present, this was a crying
shame.
Mr. Herman Adkins is
coordinating the workers for
the fields, so if you can help in
any way, please contact him at
366-6732 after 5 p.m.

cently, with the Rev. Fil
