Prior to assuming his present position, Dr. Downs was Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Uni
versity bystem of Georgia In this capacity he was responsible for the general adminis
trative duties for 24 colleges in the Georgia System Also, responsible for developing
new J jmor College, evaluation studies, planning, enrollment data, testing, and guid
ance He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in tests and measurements,
individual analysis, organization and administration of guidance services, occupational
information counseling, and directing master thesis. In addition to these outstanding
achievements, Dr Downs is the author of numerous publications.
Clayton Junior College will open in September of 1969 The college is a two-year insti
tution —one of 26 institutions operated by the Board of Regents of the University Sys
tem of Georgia At the present time, the fee schedule for junior colleges is SBO per
quarter for full-time students and $7 per quarter hour for part-time students. Each
member of the Clayton Junior College faculty will hold a master's degree or higher
degree in his teaching discipline. The initial faculty will consist of approximately 50
members, teaching mathematics, English, literature, art, music, speech, French, Span
ish, biology, physics, chemistry, zoology, history, political science, government, soci
ologv, psychology, accounting, economics, business administration, and nursing.

season officially opened Satur
day. May 10. The Angels, one
of our senior teams, won the
trophy at the parade Congrat
illations. Angels, we know you
spent a lot of time and it took
hard work to fix your float.
The first game was between
the Tom Boy Pee Weesand the
Red Wings. The Red Wings
defeated the Tom Boy Pee
Wees. 24 to 14
Results of the other games

Harry Downs
Dr. Horry S. Downs, o native Georgian, who holds a graduate
degree from North Georgia College, a masters degree from
the University of Georgia, and a doctorate degree from Michi
gan State University, has been appointed President of the new
Clayton Junior College.

3 to 6 p.m. The public is cordially invited to tour the
newly redecorated and renovated jail facilities, also an
opportunity to meet Sheriff Robert A. Deyton and his
staff who serve the citizens of Clayton County 24 hours
each day.

Second Jamboree
The Metro Modulators Citi
zens Band Radio Club will hold
its second annual jamboree at
South Park Recreation Center
in Last Point on May 24 and
25.
The jamboree will have dis
plays of radio equipment as
well as food and games. A
number of prizes will be given
away.
There will be a dance Satur
day night, beginning at 8 p.m.
A church service will be held at
the jamboree site Sunday
morning at 10 a m. The Rev. J.
L. Whitlock will speak
There will also be provisions
for camping at the site.

Variety Show
Considered
Big Success
The Clayton County
Variety Show, sponsored by
the Clayton County Citizen
Bank Radio Club, was held Sat
urday night, April 26, in the
North Clayton Junior High
school auditorium in College
Park.
The Show was considered a
big success and everyone en
joyed such entertainers as
Johnny Kay (WPLO), the Bal
lew Sisters, the Traveleers, the
Country Cousins and many
more fine groups.
Proceeds from the show will
be turned over to the Clayton
County Hospital Authority to
furnish a room.
The Clayton County CB
Club gave away a new Citizen
band radio and a portable TV.
The winner of the CB radio
was Ed Roberts. 2200
Meadowlane Drive, SW, Atlan
ta, and the winner of the TV
was C. M. Thompson, River
dale.

Gamma Beta Chapter of
Epsilon Sigma Alpha Inter
national recently named Mrs.
H. A. Thach as their Outstand
ing Pledge of the Year and Mrs.
C. S. Page as their Outstanding
Girl of the Year.
Mrs. Thach joined ESA in
April, 1968. When she com
pleted her six-month pledge
period in October, she had
accumulated over 1,000
achievement points. She has
donated over 50 hours of time
to philanthropic work. She and
her husband, Herschel, are the
parents of two lovely children,
Herschel. Jr., 7 and Holly, 4.

6-5, 195-pound Richardson averaged 14 points and 13 re
bounds for DeKalb JC last season. He is the son of Mr.

Mrs. Page has served as
Gamma Beta’s president since
June. 1968. She has contri
buted greatly to the activities
of the chapter and recently
achieved the First Degree of
the Pallas Athene Award, the
chapter's first. She and her
husband, Sam, reside at 4735
Courtney Drive in Forest Park.
Gamma Beta held its annual
election of officers at their reg
ular meeting April 1. The re
sults are as follows: President,

Senior High Band
Concert Friday
The Senior High School
band will have a concert Friday
evening. May 16, at 8 p.m. at
the Senior High Gym. Make
your plans not to attend. Ad
mission is free. The Music-
Club will have a paper sale at
the Senior High gym Saturday
morning, June 7. Please plan to
bring papers before noon that
day or call 366-7072,

up of large quantities.
The last meeting of the
Music Club will be May 26 at 8
p.m. at the Senior High School
band room. All parents of band
students coming into the
Senior High next year are in
vited to attend this meeting.
