Suggestions
Purpose:
Everything we say or do
creates attitudes and opinions.
A well-rounded publicity plan
insures that all persons in the
district are aware that Scouting
is active in the area and are
informed on the effect it is
having on the lives of boys.
Plan of Action:
1. Develop a publicity pro
gram working with the Operat
ing Committees and Com
missioner Staff, especially
emphasizing special events and
programs such as: District
Annual Banquet, District
Camporee, Boy Scout Week.
2. Cultivate and enlist the
support of the local communi
cations media.
3. Recruit a District Patrick
Henry Promotion Chairman
whose duty it will be to inform
the units about the availability
of the Patrick Henry Program.
4. Work with units to secure
publicity for their noteworthy
achievements.

E. B. Selover, motorman on

“There’s one nice thing
about driving a train. No one’s
gonna put a gun at your head
and say ‘Havana.’”

The Forest Park Civitan
Club was well represented at its
District Convention at Jekyll
Island. The weather was clear
and one could not ask for a
more ideal setting to com
mence our 10th annual Con
vention of Georgia District
North.
At the Friday night dinner,
it became apparent that the
Civitans from Forest Park had
been a very busy group. After
this Club received seven
plaques and a silver cup, the
good natured chant from the
other clubs seemed to say at
the announcement of the next
award, “give it to Forest Park.”
The awards received at this
dinner were: Ist place-
Membership; Ist place-Publi
city; Ist place-Best Club Bul
letin; Ist place-Best Single
Project; Ist place-Youth
Award; 3rd place-Citizenship
Building. Gordon Kraft re
ceived an individual award for
bringing into the district the
largest number of new mem
bers. The silver cup presented
to Forest Park is the achieve
ment Trophy, presented to the
Club that has the most out
standing all-around program
and achievements for the year.
This award is made according
to the size of the clubs and
Forest Park was in the 25 to 40
member size and accordingly
this is the club size that con
sistently undertakes the
greatest amount of projects
annually.
At the final Saturday night
banquet, another and perhaps
the biggest honor was accorded
Forest Park when the Inter
national Vice-President of
Zone II presented us with the
Governor’s Cup for the most
outstanding Club in the
Georgia District. President
Gordon Kraft accepted the
award.
The Forest Park Civitans
and wives in attendance at
Jekyll were: Gordon and Nell
Kraft (Club President), Guy
and Sonja Swanner (Incoming
Club President), Wilbur and Pat
Peacock (Club Vice-President),
Al and Gwinn Hunt (Club
Treasurer), James and Myra
Matthews (Club Representative
to CCARC), and Paul Rey
nolds, Junior Civitan Chair
man. This Convention and
events will surely have to go
down in the Civitans book as
having set marks that have not
been made before, the up
coming year now gives the Civi
tans a challenge to have our
best year still ahead.
