CHINA’S WAR ACTIVITY
It will probably be a matter of surprise
. to most of us to learn that China al
ready has 125,000 men behind the firing
lines in France and in Mesopotamia, yet
that is the statement made in an address
before the New York State Chamber of
Commerce by Dr. Wellington Koo,
Chinese Ambassador to this country, and
therefore must be received as authentic
and authoritative. Dr. Koo also said
that when the Chinese commissioners now
in the United States return to China and
make their report to the government the
* result will undoubtedly be increased mil
itary activity. “China intends to do her
utmost in this struggle for democracy,”
he declared. All of which is pleasant and
reassuring to hear.
Only One Razor Measures Up
to The Soldier's Needs
HE first thing a man learns in the Service is the meaning of the word “Attention!”
Snap, precision—doing things on the jump—clean and right the first time.
Everything in his life brings him to the Gillette. There are more Gillettes in the
packs and pockets of Uncle Sam’s Boys than of all other razors put together.
And this holds good for all the Allied Armies
and Navies on all the battle “fronts of Europe
and the East, from the first gun fired in the
World War.
It’s not alone the quality of the Gillette Shave
—the Gillette service whether the water is hot
or cold—the way it has solved thousands of
times every shaving problem that any man can
put up to it—its soothing, bracing effect on the

So sweet and kind.

SMUGGLING PREVENTED
BY STAMPING UNDERWEAR
A few months ago many Germans .were
found entering Holland wearing no un
dergarments beneath their outer clothing,
whereas on their return to their own
country they were well supplied with re
spect to underwear. To put a stop to
this form of smuggling, officers at the
border now stamp each German’s under
garments as he comes into Holland, and
any person attempting to return to Ger
many wearing underclothes that are not
properly stamped is turned over to the
authorities.
The time is not ripe for peace until it
can be made permanent.
