T Military Police at Hancock Are Live
Body of Men, Although Leader Has Had
Only Brief Period For Training Them
The military police at Camp Hancock,
composed of 250 .Jilfigers and men, was
organized under the direction of Capt.
Jerome E. Johnstone, provost marshal.
He has taken the rawest of material
and made <|f them‘police officers of the
first grade.
Captain Johnstone has organized mili
tary police companies in other camps.
At Camp Jackson, S. C., his organiza
tion is said to have been one of the
finest of its kind in the country. The
captain has an able assistant in Capt.
M. F. McAleer, who is assistant provost
marshal and prison officer. Other com
missioned officers of hte military police
are Lieut. H, McCaddenn, Lieut. G. Corn
stock, Lieut. S. S. Lawler, Lieut. S. C.
Malo.
It has been said that in very few
cases are the commanding officers of
the military police popular with the men.
This is not the case at Hancock, where
Captain Johnstone is held in the highest
regard by the privates and commands
their utmost respect. Hancock’s new M.

To Our Girls Across
The Sea
By Manford J. Holley
The poets now-a-days all write
Os our boys across the foam
They tell you of “mother shedding tears
For a lad who is far from home.
They tell you of heroic deeds;
And put in rhyme from time to time
How death has been defied.
Our war-time songs are all about
The good old U. S. A.
And how our ships have sailed across
To help us win the day.
But do you ever stop to think
Just one tiny mite
"Os a little girl" somewhere In France
Who wears a dress of white?
A little girl who braved the deep.
The submarines and all.
That she might go and "Jo her bit’’
And answer duty’s call.
She’s out there doing all she can
From morning until night;
Just helping wounded boys get well
This little girl in white.
So when you praise our soldier boys
And sailor lads so true
Won’t you say a prayer for our girls out
there
For they are soldiers too.
