SAD ACCIDENT,
On tho night of the 5th instant, Mr.
M. M. Jackson, who was returning to
this place with the U. S. mail, from
Ilaysville, N. C., when a about one and
a quarter miles from Cleveland, bis
horse fell upon bis tbigb, breaking the
bone a little above tho knee joint. It
oecurred about 7 o’clock. Uis employ¬
er, Mr. W, B Bell, bad him brought to
his (Bell’s) house, whore ho is being
well cared for.
SNOW.
On Christmas d.;v wo bad snow to
the depth of two to three inches, ' mo'fet
of which lay on the ground until the
29th Dec., at which time snow fell to
the depth of three to six inches, very
little of it melted until New Years day,
when it was increased by another snow
to the dephtlT of eight to ten inches, and
some of it is on the ground yet, not¬
withstanding there has been two or
three days rain since that time. Wed¬
nesday was complete slosh.

OBITUARY.
It becomes our painfui duty to record
the death of a good citizen aud Chris¬
tian gentleman, Mr. Allison Ledford.
Ho has long been a citizen of White
county, and therefore had many warm
friends and acquaintances. IIo had
heed confined to his bed about ono year,
when about 2 o’clock on the morning
of tho 5th instant, he departed this life,
leaviug an aged widow, and eight chil¬
dren, and a largo circle of relatives to
mourn bis destb. We extend our sym
pituy to the bereaved family and
friemJs.
