A Governor's Pardoning Love.
Savanunh Times.
The grand jury oi the Superior Court
yesterday found a true bill against Mag
istrate W. H. Woodhouse, the colored
justice of the fourth district. He was
charged with malfeasance ih olllcc in u
case wliero he committed a prisoner to
jail. Magistrate Woodhouse wa^in
dicted once before by the grand jury
and sentenced by Judge Tompkins to
fine or imprisonment and be deposed
from his office. He appealed to Gov
ernor Colquitt, and was pardoned and
his disabilities removed, lie was again
elected to office some time ago, and was
vesterday indicted an mentioned above.
^Dt->re are two other colored magistrates
inChatham county. One, James T.
Fogarty, of the eighth district, was in
jail charged with malfeasance, and the
other, Magistrate Matthews, of the fifth
district, has an oflice on the Thunder
bolt road. He is a careful man.
SPARTA.
DEATHS.
March 19.—Miss Stephens, an old
maiden lady who kept house for Mrs.
Remington, of the Edwards House,
died yesterday about 5 o'clock, of con
sumption. She will be buried this af
ternoon in the cemetery here.
Mr. Grimes, of whom I wrote you,
died of his wound, or rattier from the
paralysis resulting from his fall.
TIIOMASVILLE. 1
ALARM OF FIRE.
Uabcii 19.—At 7 a. m., during a
heavy fall of rain, the fire alarm
summoned the populace to the West
End House. The only damage done
was to the ceiling and roof of the
kitchen and, I might add, frightening
the guests, of whom the house was
full.

THE DECISION IN THE ALF. DOYAI. CASE.
March 19.—While not entirely un
expected, tho decision of the Supreme
Court, granting Alf. Doyal a new trial,
is generally looked upon as a mere res
pite for the unfortunate man, the testi
mony in the case being so positive and
the crime such an aggravated one,
that no different verdict is looked for
from any jury which might be selected
to try the case.
