that he would carry'the State by 10,-

So far as Ohio is concerned we hare
little hope for ever seeing that State
resurrected from the deathly grip of
Radicalism. The floating rote is
bought and rebought there, and the
corrupt practice of barter and sale is'
one of the evil tendencies of the Re
publican party. They seem to control
the parse strings, which are the thous
ands of federal offices, draining the
blood of the public. We say we are
nor ready to write farewell’to Indiana.
We have too much confidence in
English, Voorheea and Hendricks to
yet yield the State.

The democracy of Georgia must not
be divided whoa it cocoes to voting for
President and Congressmen on the 3rd
of nest month, nor must they stay
away from the polls through indiffer
ence, disgust with politics, or from any
other cause. We have never lost faith
in the integrity of the entire Democracy
of oar State when it comes to a test as
to whether we have onr own party rep
resentatives in office, or those from Re
publican ranks; but it is useless to at
tempt to disguise the fact that the par
ty has boeD badly divided in the bitter
contest over the chief magistracy of the
State, through which we have just
passed, and that we are in a worse con
dition as a party, for performing our
duty and meeting the reasonable ex
pectations ofthe Democracy of our
sister States in the great national con
test in November, than we have been
since we threw off the yoke of Radical
ism in 1872.

An J It is for this reason
that we desire to impress upon the
winds of all the Democrats in Georgia
the (importance of a prompt and abso
lute reconciliation of c.il past or present
differences between themselves with
reference to local or State affairs.
Four years ago Georgia won the proud
distinction of being the banner
Democratic State of the South,
in token of which she was former
ly presented with a magnificent banner
by the State of Texas. What Geor
gian is there who would not olush with
shame at having that banner furled and
taken from its place in the capital of
his State on account of any fault of his!
Think of it, Georgians, and rdsOlve
right now that the Democracy of your
State shall qet only be united, but ac
tive, in the campaign to end at the bal
lot box on the 3rd of November.
Yes, yes ! “let the breach be heal
ed !” Let the two factions who met
with crosA purposes on the 6th of Oc
tober meet like men and brothers,
under the grand old party banner, with
but one parpose, on tbe 3rd of Novem
ber.
We desire to sep started now a gen
eral feeling of conciliation. Let such
a feeling pervade every quarter of the
State, and it will show itself on’ next
election day. Many evil prophecies
have been made by extremists and by
disappointed office-seekers that the un
fortunate division which occurred in the
Democratic ranks of Georgia this year
will result in the organization of a new
State party, etc., and wo are sorry to
say that there a>e a few over-exultant
and a corres-
