The unterrified Democracy ot tb»
Second Congressional district was in
y the saddle yesterday anu won with
hands down.
The result is told In today’s News
and Advebtiber as full as it could be
obtained.
Last night, at a critical time, just as
the operator here was in the midst of
an important special the wires refused
to work and thereby shot off some im
portant news.
However, the reports reoeived ore
sufficient to show that the stamp of
disapproval has been put upt>n Oeala-
ism and secret politics in this district.
As far as returns could be secured
last night the news is of a joyful na
ture
For Ben Russell carried the dry.
Bearing aloft the spotless banner
of Democrrcy and backed by the Dem
ocratic nosts he has planted the b&n-
nr upon the battlement! of victory.
His candidacy has been something
phenomenal. Entering the race at a
time aen defeat seemed almost < inev
itable, he has aroused Democracy to
its duty and to-day he is borne to vic
tory.
Hla friends have carried ,-2e fight
right into the home of th>- opposing
candidate, and. although, it was con
ceded to Mr. Stevens and carried by
him sometime ago, the battle has been
waged there as earnestly as elsewhere.
The Bpeclals below will give a fair
aud intelligent idea of yesterday’s bat
tle:
worth county solid.
Sumner, Ga., July 30.—[Special.]—
Everything here has gone solid for
Russell and think he has carried the
-county. Not a vote oast against him

Ashburn, Ga., July 30.—[Special.]
—The primary election held here to
day to elect delegates to Convention

DECATUR DOES HAND80ME
Baikbridge, Ga , July 30.—[Spe
cial.]—Decatur county honored her
gallant son by a most handsome ma
jority today. Ben E. B cell’s major

CARRIED CALHOUN. .
Bussell received a good safe majori
ty in-fray’s primary and Calhoun’s
delegation' will vote for him at ihe
Convention in August.
BAERB, OF COURSE.
Newton, Ga , July 30.—[Special.]—
Newton is wild with enthusiasm.
Election returns show 31 majority for
Bussell. When the Milford Managers
came into Newton Irom the woods
with Bussell in tho lead, the yells
.were deafening.' Stevens was present
at Newton. He left at once for Ca-
n#Hla, It is too warm for Stevens.
BERRIEN, CERTAINLY.
Tifton, Ga., July 30.—[Special.]—
Berrien connty will undoubtedly give
a good Bn?iell majjrity, but returns

No returns could be had from Clay
county, but it is solid for Russell.

Colquitt county flew the track and
held a primary Friday, consequently
their delegation, no matter who it is
for, will not be in It when the conven
tion meets.
RANDOLPH WITHOUT OPPOSITION.
Russell had no opposition in Ran
dolph county aud ot course he gets it.
QUITMAN NOT BEARD FROM,
Nothing was heard from Quitman
county and it is not known what was
done over there.
EARLY COUNTY.
Reliable information was received
saying Bussell carried Early county.

FORT A NASCITUR.
Charleston too has her poet, and one
whose dainty bird notes fresh irom the
heart and free from ail striving after
effect, will save the poetical^world, we
are sure, a pleasant surprise such as it
has not enjoyed for years. Here are
some of her verses which were printed
a few. days ago in Harbor Lights, a
gossipy little sheet that circulates only
''amonj. ' waves and dunes of Sulli
van’s Tsiand.
THE SYMPATHETIC SAND CRAB.
A maid, a man, a moon-lit sky,
A sea brefzi blowing lightly by,
A glistenirig rock, a silver sea;
A sand crab watchiDg silently.
A look, a word, a blush, a sigh,
A- sweet, shy glance, a downcast eye,
A rapturous kiss, a whispered name;
A sand crab overcome with shame.
Another kiss, a' long embrace,
A pillowed head, a manly lace,
A happy thought; “No one to see!”
A sand crab dancing jigs for glee.
A]Uodern Hip Yam Wins le.
On June 14, the date on which the
Democratic State convention was held
in this city, James Aronson, a bright
and induBtrions lad fourteen years of
age, employed at one of the leading
dry goods establishments in Little
Rock, was stricken with typbomalariai
fever. From the day he was taken
sick and up to yesterday he was un
conscious. Yesterday morning he re
gained the use of his mental laculties
and called for a newspaper. - No paper
of late date could be found, and when
so informed by his attendant the boy
remarked: “Weil, I only wanted to
know what the convention did yester-
doy. I suppose they nominated Fish-
back for Governor, didn’t they?”
The patient had been unconscious lor
torty-six days, and imagined that he
had jiist awakened irom a night’s
sleep.
