Aug. 11.—The first trouble since the beginning of the strike at the Union mills occurred early in the morn ing, when John Reams, a non-anion man was. assaulted and badly beaten by twojmen. One of his assailants waa a striker and the other was an outsider. Both men were promptly arrestod by John Ginn, who posed as a United States Deputy Marshal and got into trouble generally a few days ago was in the city yesterday. And he was in trouble as usual. John seems to he a very -slick citizen and many people believe that he is seriously crippled under the bat. But he knew enough to get himself into trouble and to come back to Al bany. In order to col- lect'the draft it was necessary for it to be endorsed and Hr. Simon Rud man, one ot the proprietors endorsed It and carried it to the bank for collection. He then learned that the draft was worthless and returned it to Ginn. Ginn then went down to Kievies’ and made some purchases and tender ed the draft, endorsed by Rudmon in payment. But the salesmen were too sharp to be caught in such a manner and re fused to deliver tha goods until the draft was cashed. Gilbert received a let ter yesterday from MayorT. F. Jones, of Blakely, stating that a large num ber of people down there desired to come and requested Mayor Gilbert to see if a more couvenieut schedule could be arranged arriving here earlier and leaving later. Mayor Gilbert at opce began con ferring with the Central and, thinks a convenient time table can be arranged. It is to be hoped so, as a number of people will take advantage of the op portunity and come up during the time.
