Well, it is just this: If you want your county paper rt wlnne to let us know it, tor on and after the first day of March the rnd X will attend the last copy of the News unless renewed We are glad to know, however, that our efforts have been appreciated by m mv, as was specially demonstrated the other day by the following: An old man walked into our office and sur¬ prised us with the remark—“Put my name back on that list} 1 have had nothing hut trouble ever since I stop¬ ped the paper. The first thing that went wrong was that as I had no paper I didn't know when tax returns took j e, and the time went by and they hft* to double tax mo. Besides this, when the paper stopped 1 lost the run «*f the days and happened to be caught shooting on a Sunday, for which 1 was fined litteen dollars—and bless me if 1 knew it was Sunday! So I have come to the conclusion to take the paper if 1 have to sell “Brindb* 1 or her yearling to do it.” Now, friends, if you want to follow this old man’s example, and take warn¬ ing by his error, send on your subscrip¬ tions at once. Accideat Ltst Friday evening, Mr. John M. Shaw ami I). B. McKinnon, left Mc¬ Kinnon's still, in a buggy, for Black shear, via the public bridge, on the Sulilla river; but on reaching the bridge they found that they could not cross on account of the laggoons being swimming. It then being nearly night, they turned to go down to the ferry, a distance of about eight miles, to cross, which they did, after dark, with safety, an« 1 prepared a hand torch to light them alo-i * until moon rise. On coming • u:iu h new held ot Mr. 1 iioiuas Alt- man's i>i a slow trot the fort* wheel ot the buggy struck a stump, frightening the horse, and causing him to try to run away . Mr. McKinnon tightened on the reins, when one gave wav, causing the horse to make a short turn, throwing both gentlemen out of the buggy, badly bruising the left shoulder and forehead of Mr. McKin non, and'breaking the left arm of Mr. Shaw* just above the wrist joint. The horse, after throwing them out ot the buggy stopped, and they got hold of him and went up to Mr. Altman's and borrowed his buggy and proceeded on their journey to 1 ilackshear. Why Not? We hear of several marriages that is to take place in the country before long. We do' not propose to vouch for the truthfulness of the'report, but as provisions, merchandise, etc., have come down so in I lie last few months, the matrimonial business might begin to have an upward tendency Oranges. Mr. Elias Milton, three miles from Uobokitt,. B. & A. It. II, has eleven swiHtt wrange trees that will average this year 500 oranges each, making a yield of 5,500 oranges at $2 per hun¬ dred—value, $110. Death. Mrs. Skelly, who was so unmerci¬ fully beaten sometime ago by her hus¬ band, died last Friday, the lOlh insl at 2:10 p. ra. She was never restored to consciousness since the horrible fra cas on G ^ , 27th tilt. Mr. Skelly^ her husband, as before stated, is in Chatham county jail, awaiting his trial here at the April u*nn of our Superior Court. We can’t say, with a clear consience, ilmt we are in favor of capital punish , uei it, hut knowing so much of this case, and of the woman’s intense suf feting, we must confess that this would be the true punishment feu a eold blooded murder, as will be proven, be yond a doubt, against the prisoner in open court. The Sheriff has the boiler, chair round, oven lid and knife that was used in inflicting the wounds that caused her death, and in April uext will produce them in court. She Waves two small children which will be taken charge of by her parents. List of Jurors. Below we publish a list of the Grand and Traverse Jurors, drawn for the April Term,’ 1879 : grand jurors. His mind was so deranged that he appeared perfectly insane. He was Mso a cripple, .and some called lmn ‘•The Wandering Jew.” One of our townsmengave him a hat, another a ' oat, and botf^ht criers made up money etiongu and him a pair of pants, while others provided him with provisions; and to all of this kindness he had not mind enough to express one word, nor but one sign of gratitude, and that was by shaking the hand of a little boy (Moultrie) who had presented him with a piece ot cheese. He was asked a good many ques¬ tions, but all that he would say was “hunting wovk,’’ nnd what kind of work he could do God only knows. No doubt tnere is thousands to-day in jnst as bad a condition as he is, but this was a case that was so much worse than anything that ever passed this way, that it actually aroused the svm ....... t he so-called “Wanderttfg Jew.” CLIPPINGS. “An OM Salt sitti ng on the wharf tlm other day very sob*rly remarked a I began the world with nothing : aud I have held my own ever since A terse and suggestive biogradhy.” “Th-re are two eventful periods he life of a woman One, when «h-* wonders whom she will haa**; the other, when she wouders who will have her." “One Of two ladies who recently visited ciuy from the country, Wrote home as follows: “we attract a great deal of attention promenadin the streets <ikt* other ladys, and holen U now-a-days P onr ?! oze - which ?°' ,od dont J; isn ‘‘ hold , nollli '> th**sr cloze, and th* hiar holds up you 4 themoreatteushun you attract. 44 “The wedding ring is put on the fourth finger of the womatrs left baud b**caus in the original formulary ot carriage il was placed first on the ton of the thumb, with’ the ; ;. 44 w , rds , |u . nilh>e of fii(h r ', h J'"*' » wuh u- ...
