Mr. John Donalson, a good and up right citizen ot Fierce, lias placed upon our desk, a sugar cane two inches long and has eight joints and seven eyes of purtect soundness. Does this show to those abroad what Pierce can do, or what Pierce can’t do? Why not give justice to whom jus¬ tice is due tuid not trespass upon good nature in the first degree, as is perpe¬ trated upon the “Penny Local,” Savan¬ nah,‘by “slight of hand” borrowing atul forgetting to give the proper credit. Lam kin, of Ky., and claimed to be a relative of mine. He stole $8,00 and left. I next heard ot him iu South Carolina, stealing and j assing as the Hon. S. C. Laiukin, ot Ge* gia. Mr. Leppard is doing a good work, He makes all the children love him. To the great astonishment of all the bright eyed little boys and girls he brought them some nice little book marks and watches; the watches contain a list of all the lessons for this year. On one !eat of the watch (you musl remember that they are paper.) was printed this “Do all the good you can, to all the people you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can and * as* long as ever you can.” Isn’t that good? Who can give better advice? He gave us several books—song books—Testa¬ ments and twelve dollars in easfi to to help buy our library. “Would to God, that others who are well able would follow his example, ami go out into the country, far and near, to work for God.
