The Sunday St^iool mass meeting at the Baptiut Church last Sunday was a gula"day, for Blackshear, arid one to be long*remembered It was the day ap¬ pointed for the Sunday School conven :ion of the Piedmont association. . To make it n joyful day to all, the Method ist and Presbyterian schools were invi ted and accepted the invitation of i the Baptist to take part in the exercises. Early in the morning the service song commenced Miss Emma J. Dar ling presided at the organ with gnu*.e and dignity, performing several pieces that called forth the admiration of ad the lovers of sweet iuu6'ic. At 11 o’clock we bad the pleasure listening to one of the most interesting discourses on the “moral training” children, from Rev. W. 1). Atkinson, that it was ever our good fortune to listen to. We would be pleased to see the excelient sermon in piint—with a bcnutiliil song we were dfsuiissed until tow o'clock. Met again at 2. Mrs. T L. land ipd the music at the organ, and by her graceful touch and magic power she possess over that instrument, all from the greatest down*to the least were enchanted and led captive at her will, After prayer Rev B. Blitch entertain¬ ed the audiance for about half an hour, ' * f in a sensible and instructive address. After music again Dr. A. M. Moore, addressed the congregation lor about 80'minutes on the qualifications and worts ’ of good Superinfetidanfs The Doctor s speech was beautiful, itislruck tive and moving. VYc hope there will be an improvement in the superintend¬ ing of the Sunday school cause in this place in the future. After another song that indefatigable S. S. worker, Mr. R. B. Reppard was introduced, (“Thus reserving the best wine for the last.”) This goutleman at once threw around the vast audience assembled, a magic spell which held them to the last. For an hour and a half he scattered before the audience gem after gem of the precious jewels from nature's mine front his own heart :";:r that house a sleeping child or a listless bearer of* auy age. lie reviewed at length the lessons of the past quarter by , Iliuust' M prmted ,-harts,, and , the . black-board ol which ho is so complete a master, in a manner that thrilled and electrified the i ntire congregation. As a demonstrator of Sunday School sons on the black-board—our brothe 1 has but few if any equals. At ft|» ni.. the pastor of the church de!ivot«d in impressive dircourse to the young, followed by Mr. Reppard, in a few word* of earnest entreaty, at the close ot which a very large number old and young came forward for prayer, After singing “All hail the power oi Jesus name,” the audience was dismiss ed. Two days have nenvly past and the scenes ot the blessed sabbath still lin ger. We hope to have in this place many more reunions oi the S. S’s. and to listen again to the neart searching thoughts of our brother English Coin. Not long since a little girl or Rcden Tuten’s, while sweeping the trash from under the dewl'ing house found an old English coin about the size ol a “Twen ty Five” cent piece, wjith the following inscriptions: On one side is the “Head” and “GeorgusIII.” and somethin'? else but too dim to make out; on the ot her side, “In memory of the good old days, 1708,” a “Ilarp” and several other small devices. Mr. Joseph Wbilden, just out of town, got oue string of his fence burnt last Sunday, and had not it been lor some ot his neighbors coming to his assistance as soon as they did it would have made a clean sweep of his whole place. A hail storm past over the upper por tionof this county last week. We h ive 11 learned of the damage done, wheth er any or not. March came in like a lamb and went out with a flurry. Sunday there was a perpetual blow from early dawn till the going down of sun, which made it very unpleasant for those desiring to turn out—especially ladies. J.
