By Joe Bedgo,
Christmas is over and another
uew year has made its appearance.
Many hearts have been gladden
ed, and others have been made
sad, but such is life, and should
feel thankful with our lot, let it
be as it may, for whatever is, is
and can be no other way. We saw
nothing to mar the pleasuse of
Christmas in our place. It has
indeed been a quiet time.
Mr. R. F. Napier having been
appointed by our worthy sheriff
as deputy to keep order, I will
say that our people were well
pleased for services rendered us
by. Mr. Napier, and think he dis
charged his duty to the best of
his ability.. *
\From the tolling of the bells,
the sound of the irons, and tho
tooting of the bugles, our farmers
went to work this morning, Jan
uary 5th. Some have a plenty of
labor, some have none, and oth
ers have a little. A good many
changes among the negroes.
More than usual, I think. From
$5.00 td $50.00 have been advanc
ed to a hand in our section.
Well, on Christmas day I en
joyed a most oountiful dinner at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. T.
Freeuey. Turkey, pork, cakes,
pies, ambrosia, fruits, etc., were
upon the table, and all well serv
ed. Those present were W. J.
Freeny and wife of Macon, G. W.
Freeny and family of Rutland,
Ga., A. L. Barnes of Maeou, It
was a pleasant occasion. Mr.
Freeny is our section boss at this
place, and is an up-to-date rail
road man.
Mrs. Bedge enjoyed Christmas
dinner with her sisters; says she
had a -big turkey time.
The Grovania school opened
this morning with Miss May Hod
ges of Perry as principal. We
have been informed that Miss
Hodges is an experienced teaoher
and accomplished in literature
and mnsio.
Maj. H. Benson, Secretary of
the Grovania Oil and Fert ilizer
Co., informs me that they have
ginned and packed 1416 bales of
cotton .this season, against 1250
last season.
Quite a number attended the
Christmas tree at Hayneville and
say they had a pleasant time. It
was a beautiful tree, and the pres
ents were distributed by Santa
Claus liberally. After the Christ
mas tree the congregation retired
from the church to the academy,
where aimost luscious supper was
spread and in wait, all were made
welcome. The occasion will long
be remembered.
Miss Lizzie Daniel who is at
tending school at Milledgeville,
spent Christmas holidays with
her parents and returned to sohool
somo days ago.
Misses Mamie Nelson and Mat-
tie Gregory of Rockville, Ga., re
turned home Tuesday after a
pleasant visit to their cousin,
Miss Ava Haley of Hayneville.
Miss Jennie Echols of Milledge
ville, returned home Tuesday af
ter an extended visit to relatives
of Hayneville. Misses Estell Hay-
ley and Lillie Belle Skipper; and
J. E. Skipper returned from Skip-
peton to-day, after several days’
pleasant visit.
There was a social party by the
young people at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. W. S. Haley during
Christmas, and thore was a large
attendance and all say they en
joyed themselves to their utmost
Mr. Joe T. Ellis, I have been
informed, will move to Macon at
an early date.
Mr. John Poindexter of the
Chattanooga Medicine Co., spent
Christmas time with his sister,
Mrs. G. T. Brown, of Hayneville.
Dr. R. B. Gilbert, Dr. Culpep
per and Solicitor Wimbish of
Greenville, Ga., were visitors in
our community Christmas week.
Miss Edna Harrison left a few
days ago to take charge of a school
at Heard, I think.
Mr. Anthony Pate of Elko has
accepted a position with Mr. J. G.
Brown, Sr., in the mercantile bus
iness at this place. Mr. W, G
Fitzgerald, who has been with
Mr. Brown for two years, will
merchandise at Hayneville.
I hope you had a merry Christ
mas, Mr. Editor, and wish you a
happyNew Year. Jan. 5, 1908.

Miss Fannie Belle Vinson were

little ribbon bearers, Misses Lena
Hill Ezelle and Fannie Kate

Walter Clarke with Miss Minnie
Robertson, Mr. Lee Lester with
Miss Bessie Johnson,- Mr. Will
Vinson with Miss Marie Crawford,

Minnie Avant, Mr. Joe Robertson
with Miss Mary Vinson. Mr.
Marvin Vinson was best man and
Miss Joanna Vinson maid of hon
or. The bride was beautifully
gowned in a brown traveling suit
and carried bride’s roses. Tho

and white waists, black picture
bats and carried wreaths of hully.
The wedding march was reudered
by Miss Effie Crawford.
Immediately after the ceremo
ny the bride and groom left for a
trip through Florida.
Amoug the visitors were Mrs.
McElmurray of Montezuma, Mrs.
Mary Warren of Dallas. Tex.,
Messrs. Marvin, Will and Clifford
Vinson of Atlanta, Miss Alma
Avant of Vidalia, Mr. Joe Rob
ertson of Birmingham, Ala., and
Mr. Millard Mosley of North Car
olina, Cor.
Byron, Ga., Jan. 5th, 1908,
For several years Miss Vin
son—the bride—was the valued
Byron correspondent of the Home
Journal, and her communications
always added much to the news
columns of the paper. As a friend
we extend cordial congratulations.
May the fututo hold in store for
her use the fullest measure of hap
piness, throughout a long, useful
and prosperous life.
Peavy—Kilpatrick.
On Tuesday afternoon, Deo. 28,
1902, at the home in Byron of the
bride’s father, Mr. H. J. Peavy,
occurred the marriage of Miss
Sadie Peavy of Byrou and Mr.
Frank Kilpatrick of Walden.
The house was beautifully dec
orated with garlands of holly and
mistletoe, the darkened parlor
being especial 1. pretty in the soft,
mellow lamp-light.
At half past three o’clock Men
delsohn’s Wedding march pealed
forth under the gifted touch of
Miss Essie Crawford, and Rev. B.
E. Whittingcon marched in fol
lowed by the groom and his bride.
During.the impressive ceremony
“Tell me that you love me, once
again” was softly rendered.
The bride was becomingly dress
ed in a “going away” gown of
brown and carried a beautiful bo-
quet of bride’s roses.
Tho presents were many and
well asserted, consisting chiefly of
china, silver and cut glass.
Mrs. Kilpatrick we consider an
ideal woman, well educated, re
fined,modest, unselfish, womanly,
a well-rounded character.
We heartily congratulate Mr.
Kilpatrick in winning the love of
this fair, sweet girl. “She will do
him good, and not evil, all the
days of her/lije.”
Mr. Kilpatrick is successfully
engaged in business with the Ma
con Shoe Company, and is a young
man of high ideals and lofty pur
poses. Earnest, thoughtful, de
termined, he lives upon a high
plane—“An honest man, the no
blest work of God.”
To Mr. and Mrs. Kilpatrick we
extend the hand of true friend
ship and love, and wish for them
a long, happy and useful life.
Byron, Jan. 5; 1903. "Friend.
