Rev. J. J. Hyman filled his reg
ular appointment at the Baptist
church here Saturday and Sun
day.
Mr. W. S. Murrow, who has
beeu in our midst for several
years, has accepted a higher posi
tion with the G. S. & F. Railway
at Jasper, Fla. He left last Sat
urday morning for that place.
We all regret very much to give
him up, but we wish him much
success in his new homo. His
family will remain here some
time yet. Mr. E. M, Carswell of
Cordele is our agent now and we
wish him much success in the fu
ture.
Miss Mary Jeter returned to
her home in Uuadilla last week
after spending several days here,
the guest of Mrs. J. D. Marshall.
Mrs. H. S. Kezar and Miss Lu-
cile Kezar returned from Green
ville, S. C., Friday.
Mrs. L. A. Morgan and children
of Americus spent several days
with Dr. and Mrs. J. 0. Mann
last week.

Capt. Coot claimed to have kill
ed the largest snake that has been
killed this year. It was a rattle
snake six feet long and had eigh
teen rattles and a button. Can
any one beat that?

two-aud-a half years principal pf
Perry Public School, has arranged
to become editor and publisher of
the Enterprise atUamilla, Mitch
ell county, and will assume con
trol about July 1st. We confi
dently expect him to make the
Enterprise one of the very best
weekly newspapers in Georgia,
and cordially commend him to
all with whom he may come in
business or social contact.
—Mr. Charlie E. Jobson, wife
and son are in Perry visiting his
mother. For eight years he lived
in Mexico, bub he had been in
Cuba several weeks oefore com
ing back to Georgia. His future
home will be in Colombia, South
America, with headquarters at
Cologne, for which place he will
leave Perry Friday of this week.
Being a native of Perry, he has
many friends here, who wish him
health, happiness and prosperity
in his South American home.

Lodge, No. 35 F. & A. M. have
been invited to attend a regular
communication of Gate City
Lodge, Atlanta, Ga., on Tuesday
night, June 28, when the degree
of master mason will be conferr
ed by officers of the GrandXodge
of Georgia. Several members of
Houston Lodge , have signified
their intention to comply with
the invitation.

understand she will remain the
greater part of the summer.
Mr. N. G. Walker’s sawmill is
in operation, beginning last Mon
day.
Mrs. Ed. Williams visited her
mother last week.
Miss Ida Beck, who has been
quite sick, is much improved.
Mrs. G. M. Feagin is in our
midst again, arriving last week.
Mrs. J. J. Newman joined her
husband at Valdosta last Satur
day, and they will probably locate
there.
It seems that Mr. F. F. Walker
has lots of business in Perry late

Miss Susie Walker has returned
home from a visit to relatives at

The smallpox is much better,
and we hope there will be no

ed from Houston county to An
thony, Fla., requests {us to deny
an incorrect report said to have
been circulated in Houston. He
says it is untrue that he is dissat
isfied with his situation in Flori
da and proposes to return to Geor
gia. He says he has nv.t seen the
person who circulated the report
in Houston since he left Georgia,
and further declares that he is
well pleased with Florida and
does not expect to return to Geor
gia.
—Out of a total of 1,421 native
white voters in Houston county,
only 75 were illiterate in 1900,
says the census reports of that
year.

the new railroad company of
which Mr W M Gordon is presi

— Our court house certainly
needs improvement, and the coun
ty commissioners have legal, au
