A most beautiful home weddiug
was solemnized at the home near
Elko of the bride’s grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Means, Thursday evening at 8:80.
The halls were decorated in smi-
lax, bamboo and palms. The
bridal party marched under four
arches to the hall, where the cer
emony was performed by Rev.
H. C. Brewton in a very impres
sive manner.
The bride came in with her
aunt, Mrs. Walker, preceded by
the maid of honor, Miss May
Hodges. The groom came in with
his brother, Mr. Pate. The brides
maids and groomsmen cam* in as
follows; Mr. J. W. Hodge and
Miss Pauline Smoak; Mr. J. M.
Means and Miss Lula Martin;
Mr. Miller Marshall and Miss
Laura Kate Pate. Miss Maggie
Marr played in her usual pretty
style the weddirlg march.
“Hearts and Flowers” was softly
played during the ceremony.
The refreshments were served
in buffet style, the bridesmaids
alternately serving at the punob
bowl.

beautiful, and demonstrated the
high esteem in whioh they were
held by their many frierds. The
bride was gowned in crepe de
chine, wearing pearls and dia
monds. The attendants were
dressed in Chinese crepe.

Means, is the daughter of the
late Professor F. N. Means, who
was so well known as an educa.

Pate, Jr., is a son of the late Dr.
Pate, and is a young man of ad
mirable traits *of character and
business qualifications.
The bride and groom will make
their home in Grovania. They

The high price for cotton has
brought it all out, judging from
the hustling of the farmers.
Mr*. Jane Elliott has returned
to her home at Barnesvilie after
spending some time with her
brother, Mr. Wm Means.
Mrs. B. D. Bryan of Vienna,
visited relatives here this week.
The past pastor of the Method
ist church, Rev. H. 0. Brewton,
leave* for his new appointment
at Wrightsville Friday. He had
endeared himself to his congrega
tion here as well as his own ouroh.
The new firm, Geo D. Fitzger
ald and J. Henry CUarke, are re
ceiving their goods preparatory
to beginning business here Jan
uary 1st. These are two popular
gentlemen, and we bespeak for
them a share of the patronage.
Mrs. W. L. Means and ohildren
returned to Macon yesterday.
Death of Dr. Flournoy.
Dr. J. A. Flournoy, one of the
oldest citizens of Fort Valley,died
suddenly last Sunday at his home
in that city. The cause is said
to have been heart-failure. Of
his death a Fort Valley correspon
dent writes:
“While not very well, he had
been up and able to attend to bus
iness to the last. About 6:80
this morning he arose and began
dressing, when he was suddenly
taken with a severe pain in his
side and called his wife to help
him back to bed Almost before
he was covered in bed he died.”
Dr. Flournoy was 75 years old,
was born at Oulloden, Monroe
county, and moved to Fort Val
ley direotly after the civil war.
He was well-known throughout
the community, and esteemed for
his integrity and devotion to his
convictions.
Two sons and two daughters
survive him, and with these and
other relatives their friends sin
cerely sympathise in this time of
their sorrow.

day at the death bed and burial
of his elder sister, Mrs Sarah M.
Oliver, wife of Mr Henry E Oli
ver. Mrs Oliver was 70 years of
age, 52 years a wife, about 40
years a member of the Baptist
church, a Christian all her life.
In girlhood she lived in Houston
county, where she has many rela
tives and friends who share the

grand-children and brothers. Her
death was caused by paralysis—
