Owing to some mistake, we very
much regret that a written account
of the meeting of the Thursday Af
ternoon Club recently held at the
home of Mrs. J. H. Powers did not
appear at the proper time. Being
one of the \ery prettiest and most
enjoyable affairs of the season, it de
served special and earlier notice.
The weather was inclement that af
ternoon and prevented a full attend
ance, but thoBe who braved the rain
and wind to partake of the pleasures
they well knew awaited them, found
within doors all the warmth and
cheer desired.
This home, so long noted for its
delightful hospitality, presented on
this occasion its Usual attractive ap
pearance. The hall was tastefully
decorated with palms and various
other pot plants; and lovely roses,
lending as they always do, an added
charm to any apartments, were ar
ranged everywhere with beautiful
effeot. Our graceful hostess waB
ably assisted in receiving by her
daughter, Mrs. C. 0. Duncan, Jr.,
and her sister, Mrs. B. 0. Holtzclaw.
Progressive flinch was played at
shtikll tables aud for a while excite
ment and merriment ran high. Miss
Annie Norwood was the fortunate
winner of the prize, a dainty piece
of water color. The game conclud
ed, a most tempting salad course
was served. Each plate was not only
appetizing, but a thing of beauty,
being adorned with a bright red ap
ple converted into a receptacle for a
liberal quantity of chicken salad
topped with golden dressing, with
tempting stuffed olives, Saratoga
chips, orackers and a dainty sand
wich in close company, to which a
spray of maiden-hair fern gave an
added toucb of green.
The guests lingered until night-
fall, when they departed in high
praise of this charming entertain
ment.

which Mrs. Hugh Lawson prdyed to
be the beBfc and quickest guesser,
and was given a dainty little bowl.
Delicious refreshments were serv
ed, after which the club adjoured to
meet with Mrs. Swanson on Decem

A full attendance of the club mem

How’s Thig^
folk of Houston,
Mrs.G. A. Clark of Atlanta and Mrs.
J. A. Berry of Houston.
Our readers know that her hus
band, Mr. Cfcrey E. Solomon, was a
former citizen of Houston county, a
son of the late Mrs. H. L. Dennard
of Perry, half-brother of Mr. E. L.
Dennard of near Perry.
Mrs. Solomon was held in the
highest esteem by a large circle of
friends in Houston and her death
caused much sorrow. Sincere sym
pathy is extended the bereaved hus
band, son, daughters, mother and
other relatives.
From the Montezuma Record we
reproduce the following;
“For several months past Mrs.
Solomon had been in,, bad health
and in spite of the very best medi
cal skill she gradually declined in
health until the.Cnd came to relieve
her suffering.
w Only last week it was decided to
carry her to Atlanta for medical
treatment, but it is said that at the
sanitarium her loved ones were told
she had cancer of the liver, for
which there was no oure.
“From the time of her arrival in
Atlanta she gradually grew weaker
until the end came.as above stated.
“She was fifty-eight years old in
June, and on the 4t,h day of Novem
ber, 1903, had been married forty
yearB. She was a member of the
Baptist church and will be greatly
missed by the members of that de
nomination as well as by all others
with whom she co-operated in per
forming Christian deeds.
“She is survived by her husband
and three children, Misses Irene J.
and Mary S. and Mr. John Solomon,
who have the heartfelt sympathy of
all in *heir sad affliction.”
