TRAIN HITS MULE HERD
KILLING 17
Pixie Flyer Plows Way Through Flock Of
75 Animals At Echeconnee Crossing
The northbound Dixie Flyer
Sunday morning plowed it? way
through a herd of sevonty-five
mules and horses at the Eche
connee crossing, Central of Geor
gia Railway and the Dixie High
way. Sixteen mule* and one horse
were killed.
The train was not derailed, but
it was delayed a shori time.
The animals wore ownod by the
J. L. Wallace Construction Com
pany, of Norman Park, which has
the contract for building the high
way from Echeconaee toward
Perry.
The seventy-five animals were
kept in a corral nearly a quarter
of a mile from the scene of the
accident, but in some way thev
broke out during the night and (
strayed onto the railroad traek.
The Dixie Flyer was coming
along at top speed Engineer W.
G. Dumaus saw the animals on
the track ahead. He tried to stop,
but could only check the speed of
the train h little. The animals were
badly mangled. The weight of the
all-steel train probably was re
sponsible for keeping i' 4' '
rails. The conductor on t
was YV. H. Mabry. ?
Late Sunday afternc
was a huge pile of crossti
up and onto this the bod
animals were plaaed, o
time, and then a fire wa:
cremating the animals?

The presentation speech was
made by McKibben Lane, presi

that no organization had the right
to exist unless it gave its efforts to
the community.
Sam A. Nunu, president of the
newly organized club, accepted the
charter saying that through the
bonds of the personnel's of the two
clubs the Perryites decided ou the
Civitans as the civic club that
could do most for the community,
Mr. Nuqu reviewed the relations of

Let Us Make Greetings
Ring With Good Cheer
OOD MORNING!
Merry Christmas:
Happy New Year t
These are greetings which every
body uses, and which we hear from
the lips of ull alike?"rich man, poor
man. beggar man. thief, doctor, law
yer. merchant, chief." But to how
many of us do the words live T Are
they not for the most part a mere
meaningless formula without even the
Inspiration behind them that usually
prompts our spontaneous 'iiello"?
Let It be different this year.
Let us back these Joyous greetings
with hearty enthusiasm. As a man
may be judged by bis handshake, so
may he be Juudged by his salutations.
Let these time-worn phrases take oa
new life and become tlme-htJnored
phrases.
Let us mean?
Good morning!
Merry Christmas!
Happy New Year!
