COTTON CLASSING
METHOD ANNOUNCED
County Agent W. T. Middle
brooks this week cited four ways
in which farmers who place
their cotton crop in the 1940 cot
ton loan program of the Com
modity Credit Corporation may
benefit from the cotton classing
method recently announced.
The agent said the method to
be used this year in classing
loan cotton differs from that
used in connection with the 1937
land 1938 loans, and will un
doubtedly prove much more sat
isfactory. A final class will be
placed on the cotton by a Board
of Cotton Examiners of the Ag
ricultual Marketing Service, De
partment of Agriculture,
i The new classing procedure,
which was tested last year, is
expected to have these advan
tages, according to Mr. Middle
brooks .
1. The cotton will be classed
more uniformly and tnus ine
quities among producers will be,
avoided.
2. The class placed on cotton
by a Board of Cotton Examiners
will be final and thus relieve for
the producer any expense or in
convenience for reclassing and
for making deficiency payments
for overclass.
3. The cost of classing to pro
ducers will be only 15 cents per
bale as compared with the usual
25 cents per bale under other
producers.
4. The class placed on cot
ton by a Board of Cotton Ex
aminers of the Agricultural
Marketing Service will have a
very high degree of uniformity
and reliability. The producer
should find such information of

The auxiliary to Robert D.
Collins post of the American Le
gion met at the Legion home
last Thursday for the first ses
sion of the fall. Mrs. Hollis
Kezar, president, was in charge
of the business meeting.
The auxiliary voted to co-ope
rate with the post in sponsoring
the healthmobile clinic which
specializes in prevention of ty
phoid, diphtheria and smallpox.
The date for the clinic will be
announced later.
Hostesses were Mrs. D. H.
Smith, Mrs. T. R. Summers, Mrs
Max .Vloore and Mrs. E. V. Peed.
