1 HATE a lot of men, I wist
I’d camp upon their frames, but
when I try to make a list, 1 can’t
recall their names. I should re
sent the evil flings from this or
that old scout, but there are far
more pleasant things that 1 can
think about. Old Weatherwax
has done me ill, here in my na
tive town, and every day he tries
to kill my twenty-cent renown:
I’ve heard the evil things he’s
said, and yet I don’t repine; and
if I tried to punch his head, he’d
surely land on mine. Vain is the
effort to defend one’s fame from
such attacks; I'd rather gossip
with a friend than scrap with
Weatherwax. I do not care what
people say, words leave no
smarts or stings; and every pass
ing, sunny day is full of pleas
ant things. Why should I miss
the sight of birds, as to the
South tney go, and stand around
and bandy words with some
long-winded foe? Wny should I
harbor thoughts of hate, when
there are authors near, with
healthy stories to relate, an d
pomes that soothe and cheer?
Why should 1 hold a vengeful
mind, when it is best to laugh,
when 1 can sit around and grind
chunes from my phonograph?

HOUSTON COUNTY TAX LEVY FOR 1941

The Tax Receiver having filed his digest for the year 1941, the
Court preceded to levy a county tax for the year 1941,
The aggregate value of the property of Houston County on the
digest of 1941 is $2,693,255.00.
The Alternative Road Law embraced in Sections 95-801 to I
95-811, inclusive, of the Code of 1933 being operative in Houston
' County: i
It was ordered that a tax of four-tenths of one per cent,or four:
i mills, be levied upon all the taxable property of Houston County,:
on the digest and not on the digest, for a road fund to be used for '
working and maintaining the public roads of Houston County.
It was further ordered that an additional tax of thirteen mills
be levied upon all the taxable property of Houston County, on the
; digest and not on the digest, for all the other several purposes for
! which the law authorizes and directs county authorities to levy
taxes; said tax of thirteen mills to be levied for and divided among
the several county purposes as follows:
Ist. To pay the legal indebtedness of the county due and to become
due and past due $4.00 per $l,OOO or 4.00 Mills.
2nd. To build and repair courthouses
and jails, bridges and ferries,
and other public improvements-. 4.00 per $l,OOO or 4.00 Mills.
3rd. To pay sheriffs, jailers and oth
er officers fees that they may be
legally entitled to out of the
county 1.00 per $l,OOO or 1.00 Mill.
4th. To pay coroners all fees that
may be due them for holding
inquests .. ... .05 per $l,OOO or .05 Mill.
sth. To pay the expenses of the
county for bailiffs at court, non
resident witnesses in criminal
cases, fuel, servant hire, sta
tionery and the like 1.00 per $l,OOO or 1.00 Mill.
6th. To pay jurors a per diem com
pensation 1.00 per $l,OOO or 1.00 Mill.
7th. To pay expenses incurred in sup
porting the poor of the county,
and as otherwise prescribed by
the Code 1.25 per $l,OOO or 1.25 Mills.
Bth. To pay any other lawful
charge against the county 70 per $l,OOO or .70 Mill.
Total $13.00 per $l,OOO or 13.00 Mills.
The Hoard of Education of Houston County having recom
mended the following county tax for a county wide tax for a pub
lic school fund for the year 1941: It was ordered that a special
school tax of five-tenths of one per cent, or five mills, be levied
upon all the taxable property of Houston County, on the digest and
not on the digest, to supplement the public school fund apportioned
to Houston County by the State of Georgia.
PERRY CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Trustees of Perry Consolidated School District 1
having recommended the levy of the following taxes on the pro-j
perty of said district for a public school fund for the year 1941: It)
was ordered that said taxes be levied as follows:
To pay interest and provide a sinking fund to pay
$85,000 of school bonds . 5 Mills. (
To supplement the State public school fund re
ceived for said district 5 Mills.
Total 10 Mills:
CENTERVILLE CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Trustees of Centerville Consolidated School Dis- 1
trict having recommended the following tax tor a public school I
fund for said district for the year 1941; It was ordered that al
special school tax of five mills be levied upon all the taxable pro
perty of said district to supplement the State public school fund
received for said district.
BONAIRE CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Trustees of Bonaire Consolidated School District
having recommended the following tax for a public school fund fori
said district for the year 1911: It was ordered that a special school'
tax of five mills be levied upon all the taxable property of said dis-|
trict to supplement the State public school fund received for said I
district.
HAYNEVILLE CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Trustees of Hayneville Consolidated School Dis-'
trict having recorhmended the following tax for a public school
fund for said district for the year 1941: It was ordered that a
special school tax of five mills be levied upon all the taxable pro
perty of said district to supplement the State public school fund
received for said district.
ELKO CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Boaid of Trustees of Elko Consolidated School District
having recommended the following tax for a public school fund for
said district for the year 1941: It was ordered that a special school
tax of five mills be levied upon all the taxable property of said dis
trict to supplement the State public school fund received for said
district.
HENDERSON CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Trustees of Henderson Consolidated School Dis
trict having recommended the following tax for a public school
fund for said district for the year 1941: It was ordered that a
special school tax of five mills be levied upon all the taxable pro
perty of said district to supplement the State public school fund
received for said district.
BYRON CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Trustees of Byron Consolidated School District
having recommended the following tax for a public school fund for
said district for the year 1941: It was ordered that a special school
tax of two mills he levied upon all the taxable property of said dis
trict in Houston County to pay interest and create a sinking fund
for school bonds for said district.
GKOVANIA CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Board of Trustees of Grovania Consolidated School Dis-'
trict having recommended the following tax for a public school,
fund for said district for the year 1941; It was ordered that a|
special school tax of five mills be levied upon all the taxable pro-;
property of said district to supplement the State public fund re-1
ceived for said district.
