many friends here regret that
the Gardners are leaving Perry.
Miss Elizabeth Short of Fort
Valley spent the weekend with
relatives here.
Rev. and Mrs. J, E. Sampley
will arrive in Perry from San
dersville Friday. Rev. Mr. Samp
ley, new pastor of the Methodist
church, will occupy his pulpit
here for the first time next Sun
day morning.
Mrs. S. S. Tounsley of Albany,
Ga. was the guest of Mrs. 0. B.
Muse for the weekend.
Mrs. Lewis Houser spent sev
eral days this week in Ocilla, Ga.
with her parents.
Mr. and Mrs. G, C. Nunn were
on a trip to Florida from Sunday
through Wednesday. Bess Houser
Nunn visited the S. A. Nunns
while her parents were away.
Mr. and Mrs, W. F. Norwood,
Mrs. H. P. Houser, Mrs. Sam
Houser, and Mrs. G. C. Nunn
attended the funeral of Mrs. Nell
Houser Murphey in Macon Wed
nesday last week.
Mrs. R. L. Cater spent from
Wednesday through Saturday in
Atlanta to be with her daughter,
Miss Katherine Cater, who is a
patient in Crawford W. Long
hospital. Friends of Miss Cater
regret her continued illness.
Mrs. Robert Morris and son,
Bill, and Mr.E.J. Andrews spent
the weekend in Jacksonville. Fla.
with her sister, Miss Elsie Hyde.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Beckham
spent Wednesday last week in
Atlanta.
Mrs. W.T. Hill spent last week
with her father in Paducah, Ky.
Miss Dorothy Newhard came
home from Dalton for the week
end.
Mrs. A. L. Stanton is visiting
her daughter, Mrs. H. F. Cogill,
and Mr. Cogill in Atlanta.
Mrs. C.W, Pidcock of Thomas
ville and Moultrie was the guest
of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Rooney for
the weekend.
Mr', and Mrs. Horace Evans
and son have moved into their
attractive new home, a frame,
bungalow ranch type, on Wash
ington avenue.
Miss Louise Rainey has an
apartment in the new duplex,
frame house on Ball street,which
is owned by Mrs. M. M. Lowery,
of Hickory, N. C., formerly of
Perry.
Mr. and Mrs. Watt are
building a new home on Swift
street.
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Marshall
Jr. are building a new home in
the Cater subdivision.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Griggs
are building a two-story frame
house on Upper Ball street. They
have completed a garage and
apartment back of their new
home.
The large, brick house of Mr.
J. C. Mathews on Gilmer street
is nearing completion.
The frame Cape Cod cottage of
Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Middlebrooks
on Evergreen street will be com
pleted at an early date.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Barrett of
Macon were guests of Mrs,
H. E. Evans and Mrs. Lu
cius Schnell for dinner Sunday
evening.

WESLEYAN ALUMNAE
, CLUB HAS MEETING
The Houston County Wesleyan
Alumnae club held their fall
meeting Thursday afternoon at
■ the home of Mrs. George C.
Nunn. .Miss Martha Cooper,
the president, presided.
At the opening of the meeting
, a short talk was made on the im
portance of buying Defense
1 Bonds and Stamps. Mrs. Alva
, Davis read “Historic Wesleyan.”
Mrs. George Nunn read two of
, her poems on Wesleyan.
At the close of the program
was a question contest about
Wesleyan. Miss Norine Swan
; son won the prize, a defense
i stamp.
The collection for the China
Relief Fund was turned in at the
meeting.
Officers elected for 1941-1944
were: Mrs. Sam Nunn, presi
dent; Mrs. Alva Davis, vice
' president; and Mrs. Houser Gil
bert, secty.
Mrs. Nunn served delightful
refreshments at the close of the
meeting.
SOROSIS CLUB ENTERTAINS
BRITISH CADETS IN HOMES

bert Skellie, W. T. Middlebrooks,
Eric Staples, James Duggan, W.
B. Evans, and Miss Martha
Cooper entertained the members
of the Sorosis club, their hus
bands, and twenty-two British
cadets from Cochran Field at a
turkey supper Saturday night at
the Legion Home.
Chrysanthemums in the autumn
colors were used throughout the
club house and on the tables
were cornucopias of fruit. The
American Thanksgiving idea was
carried out in the place cards and
the menu. During the evening
Miss Evelyn Hunt furnished j
music.
The British cadets spoke briefly I
of conditions in England today, j
As a group they sang English ;
songs. Miss Martha Cooper, I
president of the club, welcomed j
i the guests. Four negro boys
from the C. C. C. camp danced
and sang.
The cadets were entertained in
Perry over the weekend by mem
bers of the Sorosis club. Their
hostesses were Mesdames A. C.
Pritchett, W. E. Beckham, W.B.
Evans, J. A Ivey, Mayo Davis,
J. L. Gallemore, Hugh Lawson,
S. A. Nunn, Paschal Muse, W.
K. Whipple, and W. V. Tuggle.
