Franchized Bottlers; Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. of Macon Ships returning from other missions, are bringing natural soda from Chile-for this year’s biggest of all food production jobs. It is soda you know all about— can store and handle easily—can depend on for top and side dressing. How much will there be? That's hard to say, but last year Chile sent 1,000,000 tons to U. S. farmers and think what that would mean this year. • Properly applied, 1,000,000 tons of Chilean Nitrate would produce 250,000,000 bu. of oats or 100,000,000 bu. of wheat’ 125,000,000 bu. of corn or 4,800,000 tons of forage crops; 6,000,000 tons of vegetables or 2,500,000 bales of cotton and 1.100,000 tons of cotton seed. Natural Chilean Nitrate, always a big factor in food pro duction, is absolutely vital this year-enough and in time for all essential needs. WITH THE HOUSTON SOIL CONSERVERS By LOUIS SKINNER Soil Conservation Service Well it looks like another farm* pond will soon be completed. 1 Eugene Beckham will have his ; pond finished in a few more days. ;It is certainly going to make a i beautiful pond as the location of | the site is just about perfect for a farm pond, S. A. Nunn had his farm pond site surveyed last week. The acreage in Mr. Nunn’s pond will be around three acres. W. R. Richardson received 6,000 kudzu crowns last week for field planting. This makes 11,- 000 crowns Mr. Richardson has planted this year. The other day when I delivered Mr. Richard son’s crowns he made this re mark to me, “I’m looking for this kudzu to produce an excel lent grazing field in a few years.” Mr. Richardson will use his kudzu field as temporary grazing to supplement his per manent pasture in early fall. Houser Gilbert has done a lit tle reforestation out on his farm. He has planted about 6,000 long leaf pines on area where timber was recently cut. This is cer tainly an excellent conservation practice, as our good timber areas in this country are vanish ing rapidly. “The pulpwood shortage affects marviTjones • the War Production Board and the War Manpower Commission to increase the production of pulpwood and other forest I j KowU the lime local orthluyoiir products. i 1 trill (in- while prices are high and. “If you have any time at all in which you J pulpwood is badly needed.
