Miss Lillie Brooks spent sev
eral days last week with rela
tives in Atlanta.
Flight Officer E. B. Hoyt spent
Thursday and Friday here with
his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
W 0. Brooks. He was enroute
to an Army Air Base in Florida
from Spence Field, Moultrie.
Mrs. Alton Hardy and sons
visited her parents,Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Collier, and sister, Mrs. P.
C. Lawson and baby son, David
Hardman, last. week.
Miss Annis Annis Jean Ne-
Smith came home from G. S. W.
C. Valdosta, for the weekend,
Earl Marshall, student of G.
M. C., Milledgeville, was at home
for the weekend.
The high school group of Le
gionnaire’s children had a party
at the Legion Home Friday
night after the Basketball game.
The Perry and Murshallville
teams were guests on this occa
sion. Chaperones were Mrs. B.
H. Andrew Jr., Mrs. W. E. Mar
shall Jr., and Mrs. J.B. Calhoun.
Wendell Taylor, student of M.
G. C., Cochran, spent the week
end with his parents. Mr, and
Mrs. Jim Taylor,at Clinchfield.
Mrs. W. W. Driskell spent the
weekend in Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Emmit Akin and daugh
ter, Anna Katharine, and Mrs.
J. L. Wall and daughter, Linda,
spent Sunday and Monday in
Griffin to be with their brother,
Owen Shackleford, U. S. Marine,;
who was at home from foreign
service.
Mr. T. S. Chapman returned
Tuesday from a visit to his
daughter, Mrs. George Johnston,
and Mr. Johnston at Sasser, Ga.
Mrs. Chas. A. Allen and daugh
ter, Gwen, of Birmingham, Ala.
arrived Tuesday for a visit with
her sister, Mrs, Joe Mitchell, and
family.
Miss Jean Houser will arrive
Friday from Columbia, S. C. to
spend the weekend with her
mother, Mrs. S. P. Houser.
Mrs. M. M. Dean and daugh
ter, Jacquelyn, have gone to Col
lege Park, Ga. to spend some
time with her mother, Mrs. Inez
Oliver.
Mrs. L, F. Cater of St. Marys,
Ga. arrived Tuesday for a visit
with Mrs. A. P. Whipple and
Mrs. J. M. Gooden.
Rev. and Mrs. A. A. Waite Jr.
of Atlanta and Midland, Ga. are
with her parents, Rev. and Mrs.
J. E. Sampley, this week while
attending the annual Methodist
church conference in Macon.
Mrs. Bessie Lee is visiting her
sister in Cartersville, Ga. this
week.
Mrs. Ricks Carson of Reynolds
visited her aunts, Misses Gussie
and Fannie King, last week.
Mrs. 0. D. Warthen of Vidalia
is visiting her mother, Mrs. E.
D, Smith, this week.
Pvt. Henry Mathews of Camp
Sibert, Ala. was at home for the
weekend.
Dr. H. P. Dobbins came home
from Columbus, Ga. for the
weekend.
Mrs. E, D. Saville of Atlanta
is visiting her mother, Mrs. A. I.
Tuggle.
Rev. J. A. Ivey will attend the
annual meeting of the Ga. Bap
tist convention at First Baptist
Church, Atlanta, next Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr.
Ivey is associate secretary of the
convention.
Mrs. Ben Atkins was given a
surprise birthday dinner Friday
evening by her mother,Mrs. J.P.
Risher, at their home. The pret
ty birthday cake was the central
decoration of the table. Fifteen
guests were present at this de
lightful affair.
Billy Lee was at home for the
weekend from M. G. C., Coch
ran, Ga.
Philip Herndon, student of
Gordon College, Barnesville, was
at home for the weekend.
Mrs. Lee M. Paul 111 and bahy
son, Jimmy, have gone to St.
Augustine, Fla. to be with 2c

DAB. REGENT ENTERTAINED
Mrs. Ober D. Warthen of Vi
dalia, Georgia state regent of the
Daughters of the American Rev
olution, was the honor guest of
the Gen, Daniel Stewart chapter
D. A. R. of Perry Tuesday after
noon. Mrs. Warthen was Miss
Inez Smith of Perry.
Mrs. G. E, Jordan, regent of
the local D. A. R. chapter, pre
sided at this meeting which was
held in her home. Mrs. Jordan
presented Mrs. Warthen who
spoke on the work of the D. A.
R. organization with special em
phasis on its war work which in
cludes Red Cross activities, the
maintaining of 38 Mobile Blood
Plasma Units, and the establish
ment of 18 Blood Donor centers.
Mrs. Warthen urged the or
ganization of junior citizenship
clubs to teach patriotism to young
people and the enlisting of new
D. A. R. members from adults.
A program was presented by
Mrs. E. W. Traylor, chmn. A
reading was given by Mrs. E. P.
Staples. Mrs. Joe Mitchell sang
"Dear Land of Home” and
"Prayer Perfect” with Mrs. J.
M. Gooden as accompanist.
Members of the Fort Valley
chapter, the Gov. Treutlen chap
ter of Fort Valley, and the
Stephen Hopkins chapter of Mar
shallville were guests on this oc
casion. A delightful social was
held in conclusion.

TO WED JOHN HOUSER
Of cordial interest is the an
nouncement made Sunday by Mr.
and Mrs. Charles H. Matthews,
of Fort Valley, of the engage
ment of their daughter, Ann, to
Aviation Cadet John H. Houser,
of Perry and Douglas, Ariz.
Miss Matthews is now a stu
dent at Peabody College, Nash
ville, Tenn. Cadet Houser is in
training in Arizona. The date
of the marriage tfHll be announc
ed later and will take place at the
Fort Valley Methodist Church.
The sisters of the bride-elect
are Mrs. Wesley Green, recently
of Puerto Rico; Mrs. Richard
Campion, of Wallemford, Pa.;
Miss Nina Ray Matthews, of
Fort Valley and Atlanta; Mrs.
Roy L. Dial, of Key West, Fla.;
Mrs. James F, Connell, of Fort
Valley. Her only brother is
Carter FI. Matthews, of Talbot
ton, Ga.
Cadet Houser is the son of the
. late Sam P. Houser, of Perry,
and Mrs. Sam P. Houser, who
was the former Miss Katharine
Hodges. His sisters are Mrs.
Joseph M. Borders, of Fort Val
ley, and Miss Jean Houser, of
Columbia, S, C. His paternal
i grandparents were the late Judge
and Mrs. John H. Houser of
Perry. Mis maternal grandpar
. ents are the late John H. Hodges
i and Mrs. Hodges, the former
Miss Katherine Norwood, who is
a life-long resident of Perry.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Pritchett
and son. Allen, attended a re
union of the Pritchett family at
Griffin, Ga. Sunday.
