HOME JOURNAL
Perry, Ga. April 11, 1040 ;
LIGHT THE BALL PARK
This community has never had ,
the juvenile delinquency prob
lems that plagues the larger
cities. We must keep it that 1
way; we must provide whole
some recreation for the youths
in the county -recreation that]
will be more attractive than the
places which give them a chance i
to involve themselves in crime!
and misconduct.
It occurs to The Homo Journal
that one of the best ways to pro
vide wholesome entertainment is
to light the softball diamond at
the school grounds. Games could
be played two or three nights a
week. Sports observers here
say that several hundred people
could lie expected to attend these
games at night, whereas the
Sunday afternoon crowds are
small because of the terrific
mid-summer heat. The players,
too, would benefit.
Several of the people who have
young boys and girls have told
The Home Journal that they
would like to see night softball
provided because they had rath
er their children would go to tin
ball game than to several other
less-reputable places in the vi
cinity.
This newspaper would welcome
suggestions and criticisms of
this idea, or belter ideas for pre
venting juvenile delinquency in
this community.
