Minister Fined
In Wreck Case
The Rev. William K. Hart,
paster of a Columbus church, ha
pleaded guilty lu charges of in
voluntary manslaugtiter as a re
sult of a Houston county auto
mobile accident, and was fined
$5OO by Judge Mallory Atkinson
of Superior Court.
Mr. Hart was indicted by the
Houston County grand jury in
connection with an accident
which occurred January 25 at
Henderson. Melvin Jones, Jr.,
Columbus religious leader, and a
Decatur woman were killed, and
two others were injured.
The trial of Thomas 11. Cook,
38, of Warner Robins, a charge
of rape was postponed to May 6
at the request of Cook’s attor
neys. Gradv Gillon of Macon and
A. M. (Phil) Anderson of Perry.
J lie attorneys asked the court
fur more time to prepare their
case.
The traverse jury for the sec
ond was discharged April 9 to be
recalled for the Cook trial.

equivalent to their interest in the

is desired that the parliamentary
design of the unincorporated post

Sold in Houston
Houston countians purchased a
total of $22-1,989 in U. S. Savings
Bonds in the first quarter of
1946, Mayo Davis, county chair
man, announced.
The total included $72,919 in
E Bonds, $1,500 in F and G
Bonds during the month of
March, bringing county’s March,
total to $74,419. March sales in
Georgia this year are about 70
per cent of last year when we
were still at war. At this rate,
Georgians will invest over 75
millions in savings bonds in 1946,
according to Joseph G. Woodruff,
state director of the U. S. Sav
ings Bund Division.

conveyed and assigned to the un
dersigned on March 1, 1946.

TAX COLLECTOR’S NOTICE
According to a new law in regard to a person
being qualified to vote for the 1946 election, it
seems that every voter whose name was not on
the qualified voter’s list for the November elec
tion of 1944 will necessarily have to register again
by or before July 5, 1946.
Copy of the New Law Referred to
“That all persons who, at the General Elec
tion of November 1944 in any county, city or
town of the State who were not on the current
qualified voters’ list of said county, city or town
or who have not registered since that time or who
shall not hereafter register, shall, before voting at
the next or any succeeding General or Special
Election, first qualify by registering with the
proper officials of the county, city or town of the
state at least four (4) months before any such fu
ture General Election and five (5) days before any
such Special Election.”
If there is any doubt of being qualified, it will
be well to check at the Tax Collector’s Office in
Perry, Georgia.
