Federal Land Bank
Now Privately Owned
The Federal Land Bank of Co
lumbia is now entirely owned by
the farmer members of the 85 na
tional farm loan associations and
a small number of direct borrow
ers in the Third Farm Credit Dis
trict, according to a statement :
received this week from Julian
H. Scarborough, president of the 1
bank, by M. L. Cook. Jr., Secre- i
tary Treasurer of the Montezuma
National Farm Loan Association.
The final payment of approxi
mately $5,000,000 of the Govern
ment’s investment was made on
May 1.” Secretary-Treasurer
Cook said.
The Montezuma Association
has a farmer-owned captal of
$42,990, all of which is invested
in capital stock of the Federal
Land Bank. The office is located
at Montezuma, and handles the
making and servicing of land ,
bank loans in Macon, Peach. |
Houston, Schley, Marion, Taylor,
Chattahoochee, Muscogee, Bibb,
and Crawford Counties.

Birth Rate Rises
In Houston County
Houston County’s birth rate
for every thousand persons was
i 23.5 in 1940, its death rate only
10.4. In 1944 its state income
tax payments perccapitaa —a good
index of luxury buying power—|
were $1.91, ranking it twelfth!
among Georgia’s 159 counties. 1
Its popular votes cast per unit in j
the gubernatorial primaries of |
: 1942 and 1940 were 413 and 452, 1
as compared with the state i
averages of 739 and 866. In the
same elections the winning candi
date’s percentages of its vote
were 38 and 52, as compared
with the state averages of 58
and 52 per cent.
