Collins Hoping
For 12th Grade

tendent of Schools. has expressed i
hope that the next General As
sembly will provide a 12th grade
in the Public School System
“I am hoping that the next
General Assembly will realize the
imperative need of this additional
grade and takes steps to make it
possible,” Dr. Collins said in ad
dressing the Georgia Association
of School Adminstrators, meet
ing in Athens.

explained that “young people of
this day mature much earlier than
youngsters of previous gene
rations.”
He appealed for better quali
fied teachers and recommended
raising salaries and expanding
the present retirement system to
reach this objective. He expressed
hope that next January, when
the Legislature meets, the 50 per
cent increase in teachers’ salaries
will be made permanent.
