Green Acres Contest
RULES
, 1. Prizes will be awarded based on the farms having largest percentage of their tilled land in
winter cover crops.
2. Farmers wishing to enter this contest must sign entry blank by Dec. 15, 1946. Entry blanks
can be secured at the County Agent’s Office or the Triple-A Office.
3. Only cover crop practices qualifying for A. A. A. payments will be accepted. Acreage of
blue lupine harvested for seed exceeding 10 acres will not count.
4. 1 ifty per cent of tne winter cover crop acreage must be winter legumes, consisting of
Austrian winter peas, vetch, crimson clover or blue lupine. Acreage to small grain and
winter legume mixtures wili count one-half in figuring acreage of winter legumes and one
half in figuring acreage of small grains. Acreage of small grains turned as a cover crop
will count one-halt as much as the same acreage of winter legumes.
5. Satisfactory growth meeting A. A. A. standards must be obtained.
6. A. A. A. measurements of the fields will be the standard for determining acreage,
7. In case of a tie, green weight cuttings will be made to determine the winner.
8. Only complete farm units will be considered. Farms of less than 25 acres will not be accepted.

charged against 1947 payments.

in the pecan grove of Wright and Solomon, cooperates
of the Middle Western Ocmulgee River Soil Conservation
District. This is also a good soil building practice and
furnishes excellent grazing during the winter months.

trict advocates the platnng of winter legumee. The
Blue Lupin on the left in the above picture was planted
lest fall on October sth. That on the right was planted
on November 2nd. This picture was made on February
2nd of this year.
