Patrons of Freezer
Get Agent's Tips
■ Food must be properly handled,
prepared, packaged and stored
to insure top quality with frozen
1 products, County Agent W. T.
■ Middlebrooks declared this week,
pointing out that freezer locker
users must become thoroughly
familiar with proper preparation
of food for freezing.
“Use of freezer lockers en-]
ables farm families to have a I
. more uniform and better balanced 1
I diet throughout the year,” Mr. >
j Middlebrooks said. “They can
I put up meats, fruits and vege
; tables when they are abundant
and low in price for use during
periods when they are available i
or are high in price.”
Due to improper preparation
and careless handling, consider
able amounts of vegetables and
meat, especially salt cured pork,
are lost, h e disclosed. As the
number of families using freezer
facilities increases, the amount
of food lost will increase unless
proper preparation and handling
is stressed.
“A steady flow and large vo
lume of properly prepared food
into and out of the locker each
year makes for the most profit
able use of the family freezer
locker,” Mr. Middlebrooks said.
“This makes for a very low rent
al cost per pound of food stored
and enables the family to make
the best use of the locker in
providing for a balanced diet
throughout the year.”
