A major campaign was launched to identify Robins AFB to motorists along Interstate Highway 75. The chapter secured a surplus MACE missile to mark the Warner Robins and Robins AFB exit, and under a new contract to upgrade the high way’s signs, Robins AFB will now be included. A two-fold effort has been launched to acquaint community leaders with the importance of Robins AFB to the area, not only in economic terms, but in terms of the vast social, cultural and periphery benefits. Part of this effort was coining the slogan, “Every Day Is Air Force Appreciation Day” in Middle Georgia. The educational effort resulted in more than 300 j subscriptions to Air Force Magazine being sent to leaders in 22 area counties, and the awarding of AFA memberships to Georgia’s Congressional delegation and to state leaders. “We are proudest of our program to acquaint the people of Georgia on the plight of our prisoners of war and those carried as missing in action,” he said. “We began with a smyposium on the subject, attended by a former POW, and by in terested leaders of the AFA, and representatives of POW MIA family organizations. Our sympsium idea spread to the state level, and has now been adopted nationally. In this way, interested citizens meet face to face with the people most directly involved, and learn the facts. Additionally, we were able to find overseas channels through which to forward mail.” Dr. Callahan believes that the chapter has been a major force in the expansion of the AFA in Georgia, and that new chapters will be spon sored in the coming year. "I think that most people realize that if you are truly interested and concerned with our own area, con versely you are more aware Airman Benjamin H. Airman Kinnas, who learned to operate electronic consoles used in space tracking and control systems, is being assigned to Naha AB, Okinawa, for duty.
