Celebration Sun.
The congregation of St.
Christopher'sat-the-
Crossroads Episcopal
Church will celebrate the
Bicentennial Sunday, July
4, with a special service
followed by a covered dish
dinner on the grounds.
At the regular eleven
o'clock service the
Eucharist will be
celebrated using the 1662
liturgy which was In use in
the colonies at the time of
the Revolution in 1776 as
the customary Sunday
morning service. This
service will be used in
Episcopal churches
throughout the United
States on or near July 4 as
an observance of a day of
national thanksgiving.
The collect for the day
was specially written for
the service by Bishop
Allin, the Presiding Bishop
of the Episcopal Church in
the United States. Special
prayers have been chosen
for the occasion and a
litany of Thanksgiving has
been written for use with
♦he service.
In 1776 the Prayer Book
service on a normal
Sunday morning consisted
of Morning Prayer, then
the Litany which was
required to be read on
Sundays, Wednesdays and
Fridays, and finally either
ante communion or else
the entire Communion
